Problem with fuel gauge not working after flat battery

Hi Guys

I had a problem with my driveshaft last week (now fixed) which meant I had to tow the car to my local garage. As it was late when towing I had the lights on which killed the battery by the time I got there.

The mechanic put the battery on charge and fully charged it up, however since fixing the car the fuel tank is showing as empty with the low fuel range warning sounding when I start the car. The car defo has over 1/2 a tank of fuel in it so there is a problem with the fuel gauge.

Does anyone know the best way to fix this issue - when I turn the key the fuel gauge does move from right at the bottom a few mm to the zero point on the range, the trip computer is also showing no information.

Thanks in advance for any help

Could be a stuck sender unit. Try a fill up and running it around for while to see if it clears.

Regards,

Clive.

Agreed, add more than 20litres of fuel and use as intended - or possibly disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and retry.
