Problem with Key

One of the keys for my 987 Boxster has suddenly decided to stop working. When I press any of the buttons, the light flashed but nothing doesn't lock or unlock the car. I thought it may be the battery, so I replaced that and still the same thing. It's almost as if it's stopped emitting a signal.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what it may be? Or even what I could do to rectify it?

Thanks,
Tom

If you haven't used the car for a while it goes into a sleep mode. You need to unlock the car manually using the key. You should then find that the buttons work again.

There aren't even plugs like that, it's just a door handle. Perhaps they don't do keyholes on the newer shape Porsches?

That's right - Gen.2 987 has no key holes! See:

I'm just looking at the MY10 brochure (the current one) and there are keyholes visible in the photographs.
There is only one though - the drivers door. Bear this in mind when looking at photographs on Porsche websites...
Well done, Mark. I was wondering who'd be the first to spot that one.

Could be that the key is out of sync with the car;

Apparently, the key fobs lose their synchronisation if the buttons are "frequently inadvertently pressed outside the radio range of the vehicle." Well, it's really Porsche's fault for making the buttons so easy to press while the keys are in pockets.

To solve this you need to perform the key "handover procedure." This same process needs to be done if you get a replacement key fob, not just for your new fob but for all preexisting fobs as well. To save you a trip to the dealer, here is how you do it:

"Insert the key into the ignition lock and turn the ignition on. Then press the remote button until the blinking frequency rate of the central locking switch in the dashboard changes. Remove the key from the ignition lock and test function."

Wow! That worked! Thanks so much for that tip.I'll have to be more careful in future to ensure the buttons don't get pressed outside of the radio range.
