Problem with my roof - something has caused a mis-alignment and jamming of my roof mechanism.

It looks like one of my roof arms has gone and put my roof mechanism out of alignment! I was putting my roof down yesterday afternoon with the sun out and despite holding down the switch to put the hood back the red warning light stayed on. So I put the roof back into position to try again. However this didn't work and when I put the roof up back into position again it jammed at about 98% shut preventing me opening the rear boot with an out of position uplift to one side.

Took my car into the OPC today who were very good , explained to me what they thought the problem was in the workshop and removed the brackets to secure the roof back into position for me. However further investigation is now required. It appears that one arm / ball joint went as I retracted the roof which then took one of the side motor gears out of synch and jammed the roof out of position.

The next stage is to get a quote next week from the OPC and then I intend to check out the Independent where I bought the car, as I am worried about labour charges with mechanics seeming to earn more than brain surgeons at the OPC's. I am worried because I have no warranty and electrics always make me paranoid having just spend the best part of £200 on a drivers side electric window motor repair so hope these things don't happen in threes!

Has this happened to any other members? as any advice would be appreciated to save my wallet. Also a warning to others to get the roof mechanism checked because I just pressed the roof button so could have done nothing to avoid or anticipate this problem.

Many thanks.
