Problem with radio

The reception I'm getting is very poor. Mainstream stations, such as BBC Radio 4, are intermittent and very noisy much of the time, although I live in a large town (Cheltenham) and have no trouble with reception with the radio in my VW Passat for example. Sometimes if I stop the car, with virtually no reception, and then move it a couple of yards, it becomes nearly perfect. Is this what I have to expect with a windscreen antenna, or have I got some kind of connectivity problem?

Thanks

Ed

Has your windscreen been replaced previous to your ownership? I think the link between the windscreen antenna and the stereo may have been cut when the windscreen was replaced.

Can you tell me please how to get the head unit out - do I need a special tool? Also not sure how accessible the link to the screen is.

Thanks

Ed

I had to take my unit out as i forgot the radio security code when the battery was replaced. Luckily the code was still on the back. Not the most sensible place to keep it!!!
You need two keys which are identical. I bought mine off e-bay £1.99.
However, at the time i didn't have a key...took it to local porsche dealership who removed the radio for me....took 20 seconds to do.

These are the Becker keys you need to get the radio out:

And this is the aerial amplifier. As Rodney suggests, if the screen has been changed it might not have been connected properly.

You have very similar symptoms to a problem I had, though my reception was worse with AM rather than FM.
Changing the aerial amplifier - illustrated in Richard's email - fixed it. Easy to do.

Unclip the coat hook (use a large bladed screwdriver and carefully lever up from the bottom) and you will see a screw behind it. Undo that to release the end of the trim, and pull it off from there, working your way forward. It is held on by metal clips, so be brave.

I have a similar problem which I'm trying to resolve. Is there any way of checking the lead between screen and amplifier without removing the screen?
