Problem with remote locking

Hi,
I've started having problems locking/unlocking the car using either of my 2 keys. The light flashes on the key but the car doesn't seem to accept the signal. If I drive it for a while it is sometimes ok when I come to lock it, but not when I unlock it later.
With that in mind, I changed the battery in both keys yesterday, but it made no difference.

Any ideas where the problem lies anyone? Is there something I should do after changing a key battery to reset the system?

Thanks.

How long are you leaving it? The alarm goes to sleep and the car needs to be unlocked with the key if it's left for a few days.

This is just overnight, or even a couple of hours. I have had it where I've left it for a while and it has gone to sleep as you say, but straight after using the key, I could use the remote again, but not anymore for some reason.

Could be linked to the door locks. When I had problems with my alarm I ended up having both door locks replaced although I seem to recall Richard Hamilton advising that normally it would just be the one.

Are you sure it was a good battery you fitted in the remote?

Could it be a shortage of range? If it isn't working when you are standing on the driver's side, try going round to the passenger side and holding the remote close to the A pillar. That is where the aerial is located.

Any dampness under the passenger seat?

You can restart the processor in the key remote. Remove the battery, and insert it the wrong way up (ie reverse polarity) for 3-4 seconds. Then take it out and put it in the right way up.

Thanks for all your responses guys.
Yes, they were 2 brand new Duracelle batteries and there is no damp anywhere inside.
I have just tried restarting the processor in the key remote as Richard described and that seemed to sort one of them out. It's working far better now. The other still has the same problem, but I noticed that the light on that key doesn't flash as quickly as the other. Possibly a new key required?
It's a relief that one of them works, I was starting to think it may be the receiving unit in the car, and as we don't have a main dealer here, that could have been a problem. Our indi is great but I know electronic locking can need a main dealer to sort codes etc.
