Problems when accelerating

The problem...when accelerating hard...foot down to the floor in 3rd & 4th at about 2.5 - 3K revs I get a shudder and what can only be described as something like a turbo lag and then I get pick up...it like there is a shudder a slight delay when I hear the revs going up and then the traction...any ideas on what causes this?

Is it normal?
Is it tyres?
Is it engine?
Is it clutch?gearbox?
Is it cambelt?

I have a 911 3.4 C2.

Thanks for you help...

Is it normal? NO
Is it tyres? UNLIKELY
Is it engine? MOST PROBABLY
Is it clutch?gearbox? POSSIBLY
Is it cambelt? DEFINITELY NOT - THEY DON'T HAVE ONE!

You need to go to someone with diagnostic equipment, as the problem will show in the fault memory of the DME.

Sounds like it could be a sensor (MAF, Oxygen) or maybe a Variocam solenoid. Like I say, a diagnostic tool would show if it is this kind of problem.

Where are you located?

I hope you run on Optimax/BP Supper or indeed the new Tesco 99 octane, yes Tesco now have the highest octane rating, come on Shell pull your fingers out

Is Tesco's 99RON available yet? Anyway Optimax have V-Power on the continent with 100RON, I guess we'll be seeing that shortly....although the post '97 cars are designed to run off 98RON, so the extra won't really make a difference, unless the knock management is tuned to make use of it.

Give 100 please !

Yep Tesco have it, not sure if all locations ... Apparently I was the first they had sold at the site I went to in Kent

I had the same symptoms a year ago and it turned out to be a dirty spark lead which was replaced free of charge. Does sound like that or air mass filter. Is the engine check light on?

No engine lights on...so possibly the Variocam / Spark plug lead

Someone also suggeted that I should chack if the speedo goes up with the revs as this may indicate a slipping clutch...I done this and thats exactly what happens albeit momentarily until the car picks up again.

Just getting used to my first 911, a 2002 Targa - love it.

I too notice a 'juddering' at 2200 rpm; like a flat spot or slight hesitation, which can be felt when accelerating after being on a constant throttle. My dealer said that's normal and is the varioram changing setting which is does at this speed.

Does this sound like your issue? Is the dealer correct in that all 996's do this?
