Problems with CD changer PCM2

Hi Everyone!

Need some help with the autochanger.

Whenever I replace the CDs in the magazine the PCM fails to recognise some of the discs and shows the CD slot as empty. I have to remove the magazine and replace it a couple of times before it recognises a disk in each slot.

Is this a common problem that can be fixed.

I use CDRs and was wondering if has anything to do with the type of CDs used or the speed they are written on.

Any tips would be great!!!!

Thanks

CDRs are liklely to be your problem. Try original discs and if the problem has gone then that would somewhat prove it.

Hey Nick,

I havent used an original disk for years!!!!![;)]

I suppose I am stuck with the problem then.

How was the BBQ????

And I got stick from Mrs P about leaving early........

Just as well we went to Pizza Express!!!!

Mine does just the same. Once it's found them it's then ok till you pop out the cartrige to change discs again. I've had it with pressed discs as well so it's not just CDRs. I too mostly use CDRs I prefer them as if you burn them with CD Text on you get the album and track text details on the PCM2 screen not just disc and track numbers. I've used several brands and it's never made any differance as to wether they get picked up first time. I put it down to my cd changer but it sounds like it may be a common problem.

Definately a common problem.... I have posted replies before on this subject.

Mine is tempermental at times, possible condensation/dust on cd's or lense.
try spraying some compressed air into changer to clear it out...

to be fair it does take a bit of vibration located in the boot!

As already said, it appears to be a relatively common problem regardeless of which type of CDs used. Mine did just the same thing a few weeks back then cleared itself for no obvious reason. All I did was to keep re-inserting the discs and cassette until it decided to work. A pain but not insuperable. Best of luck.

Thanks Guys,

Its just a pain thats all. I will try spraying air into it to see if that helps.

I phoned Maple Audio who work on PCMs for Porsche and was told that I would have to send it in for them to have a look.

Just our of interest are there any aftermarket autochangers I could use instead that would plug into PCM2.

I had an issue with my BMW and replaced the cd autochanger with an Alpine one and an adapter!

Just a thought!!

Hi

I have a CDC4 with PCM 2.0.

I use TDK CD-R80 discs onto which are burnt iTunes tracks. No problems at all with these discs.

Might be worth trying TDK discs as they seem to work OK.
