Production halt

As you may know, many Porsche components are produced in the Ukraine and due to the conflict, they are struggling with supply chain issues.

I was sent this today by a chap on another forum and thought it may be useful info for those waiting on a build.

Blimey - some critical parts must be produced over in Ukraine for them to stop all model variants.

While hard for those expecting orders, I think not getting a new Porsche is insignificant compared to what the Ukranians are going through right now. My heart goes out to them all.

Completely agree. While mine is currently stuck in production, it’s an insignificant problem compared to what folks in the Ukraine are experiencing.

That is mine pushed back, confirmed by the OPC this morning.

But as said above completely insignificant to what is happening in Ukraine, an absolute tragedy!

Oh I'm not privileged enough to be flourished with that information, all I know is it was due for a March lockin/build with a May delivery date.

Got an update, so production date of mine has moved to July, I suspect it'll moved yet again at some point.

According to Autocar:

Ukraine has built up a competence in wiring harnesses in recent years, with suppliers such as Leoni and Yazaki setting up plants there.

Other key supplies for car makers coming from Ukraine include neon gas, needed to make chips, as well as the precious metal palladium, used in catalytic convertors.

The country is also a key source of nickel ore, which is refined into cathode materials to make batteries for electric vehicles.

I’m sure that all manufacturers - and not just Porsche - are scrabbling to find alternative sources of production and materials right now. Car manufacture is also a very energy-intensive process, so we can expect a round of price rises in the not too distant future as gas and oil prices go through the roof. ☹️

Had a further update from the dealer today to confirm my car has in fact been caught up in the production halt, due to the situation in Ukraine and supply of wiring harnesses. This is in spite of already having entered the body shop. So the three week delay into April is now May at the earliest, and potentially June or later depending on when new supply lines can be secured. This is having a knock on effect on all deliveries scheduled later in the year.

In a surprising twist today, I had a further call from my dealer to say that my car has somehow been completed and is now on its way to the port. They are expecting six cars, so it’s possible this pattern may be repeated through other dealerships.
