Programmable Options

During the Oct 911 check at local OPC the techie reprogrammed the auto door locks on moving off (forwards or reverse) to lock the doors at 4kph (there are a variety of speeds available) - before that it was disabled. Techie and I discussed it beforehand so I was happy, especially since I had not been aware it was an option.

But this leads me to the question - is it laid down anywhere in the Porsche manuals what programmable options are availble for various aspects of the car (auto-lock, warning horn activation, keys etc). It seems the PS2 tester has loads of variable options available to it, and the customer, but these do not appear to be in the public domain.

It would be nice to have an idea of what is available so that the customer can customise the car according to taste.

My 2008 GT3 came programmed to lock the doors over 4kph, a red light annoyingly glares out from the dash showing its activated. My 2010 RS came programmed not to lock the doors. I believe its done by the dealer prior to delivery.

How many of you UK owners of 997 cars came programmed to lock or not.

Yes, would be great to know! I'd love to turn the seat belt warning off. It's not that I don't wear the seatbelt, it's just that the warning comes on almost immediately and I'd prefer a few minutes to get out of a car park before it harrasses me!

On a 996 there isn't much you can program with the PST2/PIWIS. The auto-locking is just about all. There are a couple of other functions you can code, such as OBC and Cruise, but you need to add the hardware for them to work.

9x7s are a lot different, and there is a long list of comfort features that can be activated.

The sports Chrono option gives you a few options you can change directly via the PCM, I'm sure as Richard says with a PIWIS there are a fair few more..

Off the top of my head - Like comfort features on window opening or closing via remote. Opening the front windows 2" when you open the tailgate on a Targa or Cayman so it shuts easily. One touch on the windows - opening or closing. Auto locking (severat modes). SportChrono clock illumination. Anti-rattle for the door windows. And a few thIngs I haven't found yet, no doubt.

Thank you one and all for your comments, but unfortunately the question has not been fully answered. I suspect the information does exist in a cogent form, probably at the OPC, but not necessarily in a format readily available to the Porsche owner. Thanks once again.

There isn't a definative document, neither in the workshop manual, nor any technical bulletins. On the 996, there are only a couple of user options you can program with a Porsche terster, and both of them are in the alarm module. Autolocking is one, and the other is the relocking time. (The time between unlocking the car and it relocking if the door isn't opened).

PCM2.0 options are also programmable with the Porsche tester, but no more than you can do yourself through the head unit.
