I am for building a 944 project car for the craic... and track...! I have a 1982 bodyshell LHD (free..!) which is in fairly good shape ! I am trying to get a wrecked V10 TDi Toureg (does nobody wreck these things ...?) with an operational engine. I have measured a friends Toureg and the 944 shell and its going to be a hairy enough project. The gearbox I have is a 6sp 968 item with LSD... It all looks good enough on paper in fairness...! Will I proceed or is this a major heartbreaker...!

Maybe I should just get a rough S2 and strip it out for track...[&:]

The devil makes work for idle hands and my hands are idle ...[;)]

So whats the max torque on the 968 gearbox.......[;)]

Great idea[:)][:)][:)], I did toy with the idea of the V8 turbo from a Cayenne in a 944 as it should fit so a Toerag engine should fit in the gap as well.

The 968 LSD box may be ok, but if not I will buy it off you[;)][;)][;)]

No problem sir...! The ratios in the box might not suit the torque of the diesel.....!

Just struck me that I can use agricultural diesel on the track[;)] Green Biddy ...!

Was on to a few breakers in the area but nothing suitable yet...[&:]

Sorry I can't imagine anything worse for a track car than a massive and heavy diesel designed and tuned for an off-roader.

I do like the Toerag though and did flirt with buying a V10 one a couple of months ago.

I'm with Fen and would respectfuly suggest that doing anything with a LHD '82 bodyshell would be sending good money after bad......even if it was free in the first place.

Do your self a favour...sell trhe gear box and put the money towards a running Turbo

Decision Made Lads...... Had the Toureg for a week or so with mixed driving. Great puller alright but dosent like to rev at all... The gear spacing is typical diesel as well. I worked out from the ratios of the 6 speed 968 box and the power/torque curve of the V10 TDi that this would definately not work....! The spacing of the gears is too close. The top end would be limited and first/second would be useless.[:'(]

What about a V10 Diesel 4 speed 944 with a top speed of about 97 mph.....? Didnt think so ......[]

Thanks for the advice lads and BTW I used the Toureg to transport the box to Cookstown to its new owner [;)]
