"Project Des" as it's been nick named by a few Porsche friends. [:D] so it's kind of stuck as a name now. [:D]

I have had it off the road for the last 2 months in a garage up the road.. As the leak in the roof was leaking with all the rain so much it was coming in thick and fast and i didn't want to ruin the seats which are in great shape. So in the lock up it's dried out to almost 90% so the last 10% it's in my garage now with a heater on oil fired and it's slowly taking that to 100% with the seats pulled out to get it just cooked! [:)]

as it's 2014 I have a small list of jobs to do as follows

One is the run roof!

two is the bonnet release backing plate thingy that snapped

rear tail gate seal

Water sound!!!!!!!!!! [&:]

So leaking sunroofs..

going to go to the main dealer and get a drawing up on the 944 and order the sunroof seals that I can see.. going to throw some money at the sun roof in the hope to fix this as I don't want it to ruin the inside it's too nice for that.

For people who have had the sunroof seal go on them is this the right direction for me

Bonnet plate thingy

Not ordered it yet but I will be and it's looking fairly common fix to be honest I will look to some how lube up the cable and nope this is then fixed for good with a new plate from Porsche..

Will I need to buy the handle as well do you think it looks good still I just thought should I order one incase I break it taking it off?

Rear tail gate seal..

Unfortunately driving the car with the window open I get fumes in the cab I know it's the seal to the tail gate but I am not 100% sure this is the answer in my case.. the pin that locks the hatch down on closer inspection is raised and spacing the hatch off the rear part of the body.. I have tried to adjust the pin but it's rusted to death and I am afraid of breaking it!

looking to see if I can get the whole unit off and leave it in a can of diesel to loosen off . Before I go getting new parts.

Water sound in the upper tray area at the lower part of the windscreen

I mentioned this before and I can't find it again but some one did mention about a thermostat for it might be the issue and air in the system so I will look into that.. I am not sure if I found a small leak in the car when I was looking at the bonnet release catch plate behind the carpet in the floor area of the passenger footwell I think I saw a small trickle of water it could be condensation it could be a leak as it's under this upper tray area of the bulkhead I am concerned enough to look into it.

to the right of this picture. you can just make out part of what I am talking about..

I have looked at the car in detail more and I am going to repaint the car. It's clearly had other parts painted so it's not original paint anymore and some area's are really bad others almost saveable But with new paint I can sort out the issues as I go. Like slight bubbles on the passenger side sill I have had the camera in there and it's all ok in there just surface but I am not worried if it was bad as I have already repaired such an area on my wifes 944S2 from scratch and it was a nice job to be honest.

It's white so I can get away with alot of issues as I am going to paint this at home in the garage to save costs. I will be looking for a new bonnet as it's got some sort of bow in it I think from some sort of accident damage in it's past history as the front lights rub the bonnet as they open so some thing has moved there in the past.

Anyway all this bad weather and rain has not been all that bad it's allowed me to do my other passion, this.

Good to see things progressing ....

The Sunroof was fixed at absolute MASSIVE EXPENSIVE by Brooklands at Swanley, it should be working perfectly judging by the cost![&:]

Well the seal on the roof is the original one and it's shrunk as they all do. So that's a good thing as it's clear as day it will need to be replaced. I knew you had that company do alot of work on the roof at great expense, you would have thought for that sizeable bill making sure it didn't leak would be on the agenda. [&:]

The clamp / locating prong was silkaflexed on the roof and came off on first inspection. Clearly been bodged to stay on which it was never going.

I always get wind noise from the roof and it's clearly need messed about with on the vinyl at the back with it being cut and taped up a bit of mess..

None of this is Des's fault I must point out I took on a project and that is what I have and it's the journey to fix 20 odd years worth of wear and tear and interesting fix's to say the least.

Worse case I have a back up with a new roof if needed. Car's interior is far too good a condition to damage it with more leaks. So a few £100's fixing the leaks will be money well spent for sure.

I have printed off my want list for the OPC I hope to get there later in the week and start the ball rolling on those parts. When it's not raining I will go in the car [:D][:D]

Still chuffed with the car.. I really like 944's esp as I can get the kids in the back as well [:)]

oh Des while you about can I ask as I can't open the bonnet ( plate broke ) easy fix by the looks of it.. is the coolant up to spec for the cold weather can you remember.

I have put it in the garage with an old bed cover over the engine for now to keep it from freezing just incase.. I will get the bonnet open sooN I am sure.

this is just my option without seeing the car............

all the sunroofs let a certain amount of water it (hence the drain holes and channels) around the seal but it shouldn't leak into the car itself

If the seal around the roof is totally done in then fair enough replace it.

However my last 2 had pretty rough and torn seals but never leaked and I always put that down to the drain holes and gutters being good and clear.

You might want to investigate the two rear drains first before spending money on a seal.

ps this is such a nice car, they look great in white, but I think the non original style rear Porsche decal is letting it down - maybe a late xmas present required?!

no offence!

Forgot to mention or maybe I did, had a compreeion test done by a REPUTABLE garage and the results were good on all 4 Pots with slight leakage ..... [:D]

Thanks Des yes it certainly has no smoke on start up, pulls well, drives smooth. Just ticking off the issues as I go. [:D]

I ordered a new bonnet lever back plate this week for mine, 7 pound odd before VAT from OPC so don't fear too much. If you want to open the bonnet just remove the lever and pull it out of the cable. Support the cable outer section if you need to.

HTH,

Dunc.

PS they are definitely best in white ;)

I've gone and spent some money on the old girl a whole £13.49 !!!!!!!!!

I didn't expect to get it for that little but hey how many times have I sold something on ebay and not got what I expected so my turn for a good turn..

Any one nr Oxted Surrey?

Nice T5! Abbey Motor sport are in Oxted, Surrey. They used to carry out quite a lot of tuning work to my Skyline and Pulsar GTiR
[8D][:D].

Im not sure that a slotted valence suits a series two car... Porsche only offered them on the series one along with the sills, and a few early series two cars had them fitted by OPCs, but that's it.

Thanks I did the whole conversion my self. It's got every thing you can think of including a diesel night heater.
Custom front bumper all sorts. We use it loads esp down the beach. This is my 3rd one. Kids love it.

Ref the rear valance yeah i had concerns about it ops making it look older but the s2 is about £100 and its heavy ! A friend has one on his car and he added in some mesh and it looks really nice. Worse case if I don't like it I can sell it on

ORIGINAL: 912UK

Thanks Des yes it certainly has no smoke on start up, pulls well, drives smooth. Just ticking off the issues as I go. [:D]

Yes strong engine, burns no oil. I would give Brooklands a ring over the roof as it was meant to be perfect and NOT bodged for the money!

PS. I think the gearbox was replaced as it seems new.

yes the gear action does feel silky smooth over our 944 S2 nothing wrong with that one but you can tell the difference.

Off to the main dealer again to collect my booty of parts..

Even the door stay as it bashes into the wing when it opens so I thought I would treat her to a new one was only £14 !!!!!!!! Porsche main dealer price. I'm coming away with a bag full of 944 booty for £33 !! [:D] I will pricing up Main dealer again for future bits! for sure.

Which Brooklands was it?
