Project S2 Cab

Afternoon All

I have just acquired an S2 cab project. It is not one for the purist but I did get it for an absolute bargain and the car is solid, as are the sills under the 968 skirts. It has 968 door handles, 18" alloys (can anybody tell me what they are and what they are worth?), new racing suspension and top mounts, new custom s/s exhaust, HID conversion including the hideous fog light replacements but by goodness are they bright! The roof has some sealing issues and a sliced rear screen but the PO has supplied a new screen that just needs fitted. It has linen sports interior in reasonable nick and only paint issues are a bubbling N/S arch, just under the plastic trim and a bit towards the rear of the panel. So far I think I definitely need a new boot lock mech, a new indicator stalk and a new linen handbrake lever as the button is stuck in. It's due a belt service, last done 2003 [&:] , engine and box seem great, new discs/pads all round, still 5 months MOT, not moved since last MOT and also has a parrot, a DVD player, sat nav HU, amps and subs, 10" pioneer screen for watching DVD's and it has a full closure alarm/immobiliser.

What do you think? It has 128k miles btw with reasonable history. It also has parking sensors and a funky heads up temp display on the rear mirror!

Cheers

Blimey those wheels are horrible... scrap value I'd say... [:D] They look like they are off a cayenne S http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=WheelDetail&id=7 Must be worth a few bob to someone.

Sort the wheels & the fogs out & you might have got yourself a bargain...have you checked the cams/chain etc.. ?

"racing suspension" - bit vague? might be something interesting

I can't work out if the 968 sills look Ok because i can't see past those wheels at the moment [:(]

Wheels might be worth something to someone with a Cayenne wanting a spare set for winter tyres?

Those fogs are, ermmmm, different!

Looks like a real bargain, if it's only small details needing sorting.

Is amazing how much people will spend on unpleasant tat but don't bother with things like a belt change !

That said I reckon that there's a good 944 struggling to get out from under all those "enhancements" Keep us all updated ! [:)]

Thanks chaps. Yes definitely Cayenne S wheels then, £300-£500 on ebay, the rubber on them is good incidentally!

Yes racing suspension is vague. I bought it almost totally blind for a ridiculously low price, it has new gas struts and adjustable strut top mounts, have not identified them yet. I have spare fogs to re-convert it. I then ask myself what is the point as the rest is not standard? They work and the light is amazing from them!

First up is belts and a service, get the rear quarter painted and roof sorted and all the fiddly things fixed then I am thinking it's a cheap cab for somebody. I reckon it's a £7k car sorted and put back to standard. I think there must be £4k in it as it sits with all the niggles fixed, belts done, quarter and roof fixed. Probably £4k in it to break, but it's far too good for that.

My dilemma is what to do with it as I do not need another car in my life.

Answers/offers/advice on a post card please!

Cheers

Stuart

ORIGINAL: 944Turbo

Could you hide the lights behind a mesh or perspex cover?

Yes I could. Good shout that as it means I don't lose the very bright light they produce!

Those fogs simply have to go. As do the blue side indicator lenses and the Cayenne wheels. But after that lot's been removed you might find that the 968 sill trims and door handles look okay.

If you get it back looking more standard it might be worth £5k or so next summer when the sun comes out. Possibly more. But it would make a hard sell over the winter.

What sealing issues are you having with the roof ? plus those door handles look a bit odd, are they genuine ??

Those lights are far to hideous I'm afraid (followed closely by the wheels) Nice project though.

I'd stick the whole thing back to original, sell the bits for whatever you get, do the urgent mechanicals and bodywork, then sell it on.

968 look needs the mirrors, and they aren't cheap. I like the side skirts but for some reason less so on the cab? All a bit lumpy and too low.

Ditch the lights, side repeaters and naff S2 badge on the back. Brake light isn't an issue: remove it if it's simple to do so, but I can't see it being a problem if it's drilled through and hard to remove.

11 years on the belts? You can see where the priorities were missed on this car. I think it's the sort of 944 we would advise against on the face of it, but it goes to show there can be a good car if you look a little closer.

Has it had a repair at the back, deck lid does not look level and are they parking sensors between the bumper and the valance?

I saw that car sitting looking unloved near our office. I went in and asked about it but the owner was on holiday.I thought it might be a decent breaker. good to see your going to get it sorted out stuart.

What I think? Get it all back to original.
Shouldn't take too much effort and it may even grow on you when you drive it in good weather.

Thanks for all the replies!

Yes they are parking sensors Scott, and they work!

Deck lid not closed properly as boot lock is inop! No evidence of any smashes anywhere from what I can see.

Yes the fogs have to go, or be covered, blue repeaters are awful. However I kind of like the wheels on it! It's not standard so not fussed about the wrong wheels on it.

No idea if they are genuine 968 door handles but they work fine!

It's never gonna be back 100% original so next to my minty original turbo it ain't ever going to please a forum member! However it will soon be a solid car and will provide somebody a cheap porsche cab to enjoy for many miles!

With the roof are you having sealing issues with the rubber sections across the top of the door glass. They tend to shrink over time and leave a gap allowing water ingress. An old trick is to get a bicycle inner tube and cut it to shape and glue bits on to either end to make them meet again.

If it's the seal across the front of the roof, that seals against the top of the windscreen, I believe Big Dave has a 968 one for sale, could be it's the same part. Listed on the 968 forum rather than the 944 forum IIRC.

Cheers Chris. I have pm'd Dave. Do you know if that seal goes down the a-pillars too? If so I definitely need it!
