Projector headlights......

Improved illumination seems to be a popular topic at the moment, and I was wondering......can you get replacement projector style units which are fitted to many modern cars to fit the 944? Probably a daft idea, but it came to mind so I thought I'd share it [:D]

All non-adjustable 944s can be fitted with Golf Mk.1 lamps, but they wont fit 1988 model year onwards cars (unless you revert to early style lamps, of course).

I'm tempted to get some H4R bulbs into mine, but as said, it could just be down to the bulbs being old. Changing my dash bulbs for new 2.2W (or were they 1.8w?) replacements really brought the binnacle up quite a bit brighter.

ChasR,

Let us know what bulbs you used for the binnacle. Mine could really do with a boost. Are the awkward to fit?

I'm not sure I should say as I may be banished from this forum for using inferior parts...

I used some Halfords 2.2W Bulbs which I got via my trade card. They didn't take too long to fit (I had to take my binnacle out to fix my gauges issues anyway). Whilst they are out, check the mirror prisms at the bottom. If they have deteriorated, some nail varnish remover, and some remirroring stuff will work wonders here.

P.S Might I add a thumbs up on your good choice of cars? ;).

I'm sure LEDs probably give a brighter light, but compared to what was in there before (including after I remirrored the prisms) the difference was still pretty noticable, certainly enough to not have me squinting at nightime on my gauges. Plus I was worried about melting the bulb holders.

Just had a quick look at Porscheshop site, and they're showing at £161 inc VAT which is about double some other suppliers [8|] e.g

Does anybody want to admit to having these fitted? [:D]  IIRC 'xenon' had them fitted and was happy with them, but I can't recall anybody else.

That's right, I fitted a Hi & Lo beam H4 HID kit and was very pleased with the results compared to the standard candles. As long as you get the beam mask aligned properly there is not much scatter.

Now those DO look interesting.

How can they claim to fit so many different cars? I suspect there would be quite a lot of work to do in making them fit the car, but the results could be ... interesting ....

Oli.

At that price it might be worth a gamble, not sure it the beam pattern would be legal in this country though..

Hmmm. Ive asked him a number of times whether they dip to the correct side. He assured me that they did, despite being the same parts he offered to American buyers (this was for Nissan 200SX lamps to fit in a GTS conversion).

When I asked about the 'VW/Porsche' lamps that he listed (the fitment list was nonsense) he just ignored my question: so Id have to advise you to stay away, because I dont think that he is honest

They are only H4 and the bulbs shown (blue) are very likely to uspset plod and the MOT man!
If they were Xenons....

I was intending to use the projector lamps to house Xenon bulbs. Unfortunately the 'Porsche' fitments he offers us only suit North American vehicles, which came from the factory with rubbish sealed beam lamps...
