Projects for 2009?

Steve Brookes

After a very busy year carrying out upgrades and fixes on the car, I'm now thinking about what to do next year. What I'd like to do is:

New suspension - not decided whether it will be Bilstein/H&R or coil overs.
Clean out and re-seat the intake manifold
Change the dizzy caps and rotors
Replace the engine tins

What are your plans?

Mine's in at RPM at the moment for it's anuual service (12K this time!!) and MOT. I'd also arranged with them to refurb and paint a set of callipers so they could be swapped over but, unfortunately, the set they had done appear to be an incompatible pair of rears - so I'm going to have to wait until early Jan for them to get my own set refurbed. Stiill, mine are actually the original "raised letter" type callipers so I think they'll look good with the lettering in revealed bare metal (with some lacquer protection of course).

I think I'm going to try and limit my spending this next year to that. I've got a heap of other things I'd like to do but I fear 2009 might be a tad tight on the money front so I'm holding off.

Regards

Dave

Cat bypass, re-chip, rear shocks, keep an eye on the rust bubbles on front wing, drive it! Money permitting of course.

I'd like to do the tinware but that's an engine out job & my engine's fine after its recent 12k service at Unit 11 ,John reckoned it's pretty fast for its age & mileage-104k.However I got a good part-used exhaust manifold with perfect SS heat exchangers and all small brackets to fit when convenient for £450,so that's one job.
Also must replace the front wishbone bushes with Powerflex ones One job I have just done is to reseal one rear lens and reglue the other using 2 pack epoxy-one light fitting was nearly full of water when I took them off-no wonder the rearlights weren't working.
I would also like to lower it & wouldn't mind some 17" Cup Alloys but in the present climate I shall concentrate on paying off credit cards.

Having had a good root around in the boot sorting out my battery, see separate post, I now find that not only do I not have a tool kit, I do not have a jack and also the socket has sheared off the end of the windy handle thingy.

My project is the get all this stuff, any ideas?

Funnily enough, given my comments above, one of the houses we are looking at (finally one we BOTH like the look of!) comes with a free one owner H reg 928 as the guy (original owner) is going back to the US. Just got to convince the Mrs we NEED to keep it!

My main project is to drive the blasted thing as much as I possibly can.

Other potential projects:
1) Replace rubber hoses around oil tank and oil thermostat (and reduce the seepage!)
2) Replace hoses/rubber seals around air inlet manifold (they are nearly 20 years old and not very rubbery)
3) Get the bodywork up to scratch (some rust bubbles around front screen and front wings)

When I brought my car 18 months ago, there was not a spot of rust around the screen, one of the main reasons I went for it. Now I find it is bubbling up again. Is it possible to fix this, if I catch it early, without having the screen out?

I'm afraid not. You just can't get to all the rust without the screen coming out. I suspect that your car has had a 'none screen out' repair before and it has started to come back.

New track tyres.... suggetsions and sources?

One of the best ways I've found to get tyres is to pre-order from one of the specialists like Protyre motorsports or Simply Tyres to have them fitted at a nearby trackday. You don't necessarily have to be booked on the track - you can just go to the day specifically to have them fitted. I'm going to give a set of Toyo R888s a go this year.

I need to replace my clutch this year, got the part just need someone to fit it.
Also some wider tyres on the front, car understeers when pushed into corners.

Putting a 21 mm ARB on the back (like on the C2) instead of the standard 18 mm bar seems to be a popular way of reducing understeer on a C4.

I've got one of these from my old C2 kicking around at home if anyone is interested ?
