As title: whatever became of 'Promax Newark'? Did it ever get off the ground and if so, is the fellow still operating? I would guess that it was an already established business, but I hadn't heard about it until recently.

I've read elsewhere that Promax are in the process of shutting up shop.

ProMAX Motorsport - Announcement of Closure of the Business
It is, with regret, that after nearly 13 years of trading, that owners Andy and Roger have decided to close down ProMAX Motorsport.
The reasons are various, but in essence, the personal sacrifice has become too high, and there are not enough hours in the day to run this and our other business.
This will take effect as of 30th August 2017.
We would like to thank all our many customers both past and present for their business and support, we have got to know some great people!
In anticipation that some of you may have questions, we have put together a list below:
Here are some questions and answers that we hope will be useful:

Q. Are you going bust?
A. Sometimes people ask or assume this, but the answer is a big No!. We will continue trading until 30thAugust.

Q. Are you in financial difficulty?
A. No. we are closing the business in an orderly and correct manner in order to pursue our other business.

Q. Why are you closing?
A. As stated, the personal sacrifice is too high to continue, there are just not enough hours in the day. It has been a difficult decision to make, but a necessary one.

Q. I want to book my car in, can I still do that?
A. No, we are not taking any more work on.

Q. I want to book my car in after the closing date, can I do that?
A. No.

Q. What if I my car breaks down before the closing date, can I get it recovered to you?
A. No, we will not be taking on any more work.

Q. What be the situation with mail order parts?
A. Our stock is now frozen, we will not be buying in anymore parts. You can order anything on line or by phone that we have in stock. If it`s shown as in stock, but not present in our stores, we will issue a refund.
There may be a delay on mail order parts as time goes on,due to demand.

Q. Can I just turn up and buy parts?
A. Until the closing date, yes of course. But please call ahead first.

Q. Where will I get my parts after 30th August?
A. In the immediate term, we will still be selling the parts that we have in stock. After the 30thAugust, we will process any orders, answer the phone and e-mail enquiries on Wednesdays ONLY between 0900 and 15.00. That’s ONLY on Wednesdays, no other days. Outside of these times, you can buy online, leave messages, but we will only process it all and despatch on the Wednesdays.

This arrangement will operate until most stock is sold, and then the website will be switched off.
We would like to thank our customers for all of their past business and support!

Newark was the first incarnation of Promax venturing into servicing vehicles as well as just supplying parts which is how the business started. It didn't succeed and after it had closed down AndrewS found new partners in Andy and Roger at Brackley who had an existing Servicing business. They expanded to their current premises near Milton Keynes until 30th August as we now all know

Thanks Paul. The fellow seems to be a local Conservative councillor. Whether he has retired too, I am not sure.

That's a shame, they did plenty of decent work to my car and I'm eternally grateful to Andy for finding me a replacement 2.5 head for my car when no one else, pretty much worldwide, could. I notice Monkfish (the Monaro arm) closed too although it was based in the same place.
Ah well onwards and upwards, they may reappear in the future.

Does anyone have any recommendations for servicing in the MK/Northants area now that Promax has closed?

How much for the head Davis and what was the difference?
Simon, I think I paid £106 posted. It needed some machining but thats ok.
The difference - I wanted a 2R head casting to match mine and all I could find was a 1R. Noone could tell me the difference. I asked porsche who also couldn't tell me other than using my VIN and the VIN for an 86 turbo (which would have had a 1R head) the part no they would supply was the same. But that didn't mean that the old ones were directly compatible only that the current casting would fit both.
Jon Mitchell did explain the difference and if I can find the email I'll post what he said, but, it turns out, I could have used a 1R head.
I wasn't taking that risk however before I knew.

God, I'd forgotten the problems at Newark! Reports trickling in of poor work, Andrew up in arms at the forums for people running it down, then it closing with bad feeling, and poor old Andy and Roger getting the fallout despite being brand new to the company! [:(]

Yes, I can fully vouch for Dove House in Rushden...... Speak to Tony Whitcombe
Many of us at R24 use them....

I was already thinking about Dove House, so I'm glad you've recommended them. Fortunately they're only 10 mins from me too. I wasn't sure what they would think about my old 944, considering some of the tasty machinery in their showroom. Having said that they did have a 924 in there not too long ago, that they wanted something like 15k for! PS What's R24?

Hi Russell,

R24 is Beds & Cambs Region of PCGB.

DH are enthusiastic about any Porsche [:)] & will look after you.....
