Promax Performance Chip for S2

My S2 is booked in with the guys at Promax in a couple of weeks for the suspension work mentioned on the other thread:

While its there I thought I might get the promax chip fitted. I'm sure a few of you guys have had this done, or have considered it. Anyone got any views on whether it is worthwhile, a quick google search suggests opinion is somewhat split....[8|]

Promax are extremely fair in my experience, and will take the chip out & refund the difference if you don't like it. When my 924S is fitted with an S2 engine by Promax later this year, I certainly will want to try it with their chip in.

I used the S2 Promax chip before I had the rolling road remap and noticed a big improvement for the cost, especially mid range pick up and part throttle response. However subsequent interrogation of the chip that was in the car originaly revealed that it was not actually standard anyway... So unfortunately this doesn't really give me a fair comparison against a stock car. The rolling road remap didn't give that much more performance which to my mind suggests that the Promax is an impressive chip for an off the shelf part, and the fuelling looked very good when run on the dyno.

I bought my latest S2 already chipped so I cannot compare but I can say that the car picks up strongly from low revs and accelerates right up to 6000rpm without let up. Its particularly impressive at low revs and the delivery is smooth and consistant right through the range, any speed, any revs, the acceleration is instant and strong .

thanks chaps, two thumbs up so far. Looks like for the money it is worth getting done.

Does anyone have any dyno figures to show a increase in power? Although from what I understand it is not the actual bhp increase that is dramatic, but more the delivery of the power i.e flatter torque curve?

Here is a chart from my standard S2:

Compared with a chart from Sean Smallmans Promax chipped S2:

The peak power is only a few bhp different but compare the figures at varying rpm levels throughout the range. For example at 4000rpm mine is at 140bhp and Seans is at 160bhp, there is a similar 20lbft increase for the torque as well

Lots more charts for the normally aspirated cars at Rick Cannels website

Hi Herbie75,
Picked up my S2 from Promax on friday- in for a service 4 wheel alignment and a couple of odd things
Sunroof and windscreen washers. My car already has a Promax chip, stainless steel exhaust and ESS
box with twin 3" pipes. They also put on a performance air filter rather than standard.
I cannot tell you what it's like without chip but agree with others its power delivery is very smooth.
Very happy with service at Promax, Andy keeps you informed of what needs doing and its priorities.
Well pleased as drives even better with Geometry and a couple of bushes done.
You wont know your car with suspension done.
Cannot wait to drive down to Le Man Classic in a months time.
Cheers all,
Ron

Hi Ronald, thanks for the comments.

Andy has been extremely helpful so far and I have no reason to believe that won't continue. I'm looking forward to getting all the parts fitted and a sharper geometry set up in place, hopefully all the changes will make the drive even more fun than it already is in standard form.
