Promax stage 3 kit

Anyone hazard a guess what Promax charge for this? Its POA currently and I might ring Andy S in the morning but I want to know now!

Thanks

Yes based on my conversations with them at various times it may well be something of that order if you have no mods at all so far. You would also have to possibly have to factor in a head gasket replacement with something rather stronger than the original (cost a fair bit including labour) plus a wideband AFR gauge and maybe a proper boost gauge. Might also be wanting to look at a better flowing exhaust as no point having a humungus turbo if the rest of the system restricts it. They will also need to make sure that your engines compression is good enough and there amy well be other peripheral parts that need replacing as they go along.

Faced with all that I have been building things up bit by by with the Level 2 kit and then adding EBC, MAF and bigger injectors. So all thats lacking now in terms of the L3 kit is the new turbo plus things like the HG and AFR gauge etc. I got the MAF plus EBC in an attempt to reduce lag and maximise the power curve as much as possible without chasing headline BHP figures. As it is my car puts out 300+ horses. A bigger turbo ala the Level 3 kit would increase lag and for road use I am not convinced that will be of much benefit beyond bar room bragging about power outputs. If I was going to track the car then it would be another matter.

The expense of the jump between a L2 and L3 kit for an extra say 50hp is ALOT. The 50hp that a L2 kit will gain you is less than a grand, that next 50hp is as already said around £3-4k easily [&o]

The L2 kit is excellent I would reccomend you start with that and then see how it goes from there (and what your budget can stand !)

Just my tuppence worth based on what I have looked into before. [;)]

Promax gear and service is good, but for that price look at the Vitesse kit. A little bit more for his stage 3 kit (say £5k), but, assuming your engine is in fine fettle, good for 350bhp at 15psi (allegedly).

Cheers chaps
Jon I wish you were a bit closer - need to know what yours is like with mods and kws. It would be cheaper to do that than by a 996T.......

Five thousand GBP for his kit?? I thought it was about $4k US?

The Vitesse kit would be around £3800 GBP after shipping, taxes and VAT but it doesn't include a wastegate or any boost control like the Promax L3 does. I can't see the Promax kit being as much as £5k, maybe AndyE could post more details, but if it was £5k I'd stump up the extra bit more and go for L4 and over 400bhp [8D]

David, as you are in Wiltshire you ought to take a look at JMG in Bournemout as they are a lot closer to you http://www.jmgarage.com/modify/modify-944.htm and to complete the list of upgrade suppliers ther is also www.lindseyracing.com in the States

Thanks Paul.
People seem to have very varying opinions of LR. In a delicate way (no rule breaking!) would anyone care to share?
I know Nick Appleton's old car had lots of LR bits and I don't recall any issues.

IIRC parts of the Promax kits are LR bits and I have certainly not had any problems with any parts that have been fitted. As for money, I just looked back over some of my old emails and the additional work to bring my L2 kit to an L3 was stated at around £3500 plus things like £800-900 for head gasket, £400 for AFR gauge etc etc so I would think a figure of something in the £4-5k range is pretty much there if starting from scratch IMHO.

David, can't you just install the bits yourself? That would cut down the costs a fair bit.

I think so - i'm talking the full level 3 kit with the turbo and not just the MAF kit. The $/£ exchange rate is not as good as it used to be (has been near as damn it 1 for 1 and maybe even less by the time you take into account tourist rates). But at least you know it is going to deliver and be spot on immediately.
