PSE & 6 spd 'box

I am looking at the possible spec. for the Boxster after the current one, and I'd be interested in views on a couple of items. For a variety of reasons, but mainly inital outlay and running costs I'll be sticking with the 2.7l engine, so;

1) does the Sports Exhaust work on this engine? By "work" I guess I mean does it make sufficient difference to the sound of the engine to add to the enjoyment? I have driven a C4S with it, and loved it on that car, but there is another 1100cc at work there.

2) what benefit is there in having the 6 speed gearbox? Does it improve drivability or economy or both?

For reference I'd plan to have the 18" "S" wheels, PASM and the short shift (I've driven an S with the short shift and really liked the feel of that).

Thanks

Merry Christmas!

Ditched the PSE form the spec - difficult to justify £1100 just for the sound - never really found my current car disappointing, and I guess further tuning by Porsche of the current version anyway.

Forget the PSE - the exhast on the 2.7 is ample loud enough and a good compromise when on longer motorway stints

6 speed box helps to overcome the slight lack of torque in the 2.7 engine low down and makes for sportier drive if you don't mind the extra changes - can be optioned with PASM as a lower cost packaged factory option

Short shift a personal choice - too notchy for me, i like the shorter std shift over the old 986 model as it is.

Don't rule out the 'sport edition' models - parts bin specials maybe, but might be worthy of a look given your initial spec for PASM and wheels
