PSE always on mod - is it legal in the UK?

Ive disconnected the brown plug (as shown by the salesman) on the PSE to get the loud, always on effect, but having read a few threads now Im just wondering if its legal to do so in the UK.

If it isnt legal, which law does it break, what is the likelyhood of being caught and what is the punishment? Fine, points on license, etc..?

If is it legal, are we sure that the brown plug disconnect is safe for the engine. Im now wondering if this might disable the whole vaccum system and therefore affect something else as well. Ive no idea what else might be affected though. Any ideas?

Any finally, does this modification affect warrenty in any way? I guess its always easy to reverse at the appropriate time.

from memory, you cannot alter the sound of the car from standard - this does not mean the volume !
i.e. as long as you don't alter the chatracteristic frequency components of the cars noise, then an increase in level is allowed !
I think that's correct - but I'm prepared to be proved incorrect
mind you, you could argue that the frequency characteristics haev been altered - in the dead spot when the exhaust is 'plugged in' and in sport mode

I run mine unplugged all the time - never had a problem - not that that condones it if you do get pulled...

Not sure of the exact wording of the Law, but as long as it isn't a 'nuisance' you'd be ok. I'm sure the MOT regs call for an effective silencer, but don't actually specify a dBa level in the UK - i'll stand corrected?
So as long as you don't spend all morning reving the engine on your drive-way or outside a neighbours house, I'm pretty sure no one is going to complain.
I run a Tubi which doesn't have a 'switch' so it's errr... loud all the time[8|]. Speaking with the guy who fitted it, the official PSE system energises the solenoid to close the valve. It's open by default and the vaccum closes - hence noisier on start up. I understand/believe that defeating the valve should have no detremental effect elsewhere.

I ran my C2S with the PSE on all the time. My OPC showed me how to disconnect the air pressure switch and assured me it would have no ill effect on the exhaust or on other parts of the car. If you need to reconnect it because you want to be quieter e.g Track Days then it is a 10 second job real easy.

Graham have you done any more track days with your Tubi? I havn't taken the plunge yet but will do soon as the car is just too quiet. However I am doing 6 track days this year so I need to be certain that I can pass the 105db static noice test.

I have bought a spare set of wheels with sport cups fitted so grip should be good. I am hoping to keep up with the GT3 brigade on the twisty bits and then overtake them on the striaght bits but we all have dreams dont we!!

If you disconnect the "brown plug", presumably you cannot switch of the PSE using the switch ?

Only can be useful to switch off PSE at times - say when taking a phone-call.
