PSE Group Purchase? - Cos' this is gettin daft!

Guest

All,
On many threads on many a forum I see many a man trying to get a deal on the OEM sports exhaust system (PSE). Now, I may be missing a trick here but surely an OPC or reputable non main dealer would be interested in a group deal?? Say 10 people, now if they quote correctly this is about 80 hours of labour to fit plus the margin on the system (any ideas? 15%?)... So I would have thought someone would be interested in coming up with a deal?? has anyone tried?
I have had quotes from £1500 to £2200 to supply and fit, so I would have thought that if someone could come up with a sub£1500 offer I am sure there would be several takers?

Another alternantive is to consider a bulk US purchase given the exchange rate and seeminlgy cheaper prices in the US - would that work?

So, has this been tried? if so with whom and what was the outcome?
Who might be interested in doing a deal? anyone affiliated with a dealer, either OPC or other?

Anyway, just a thought! perhaps an early Xmas present to us hard working Porsche owners!? :)

Regards

Nick

I have had a word with of a friend of mine who deals in servicing and maintaing the Porsche marques (not a back street garage), he has promised me that he will get back to me with a price early next week.

He did say that for his to be done, he would need a financial comittment up front from those who want it doing! Large initial outlay on 10-20 bits of kit and all that...

I will let you know how he gets on.

Any specific's? - brands, models of 996s etc. Let me know sooner rather than later.

After freight, customs and excise it will work out the same, probably more. Surely a bulk order directly from Porsche AG (if possible) would probably have the greatest savings(?)

Thanks, would be interested to know.. We can always shop around for a group buy then arrange for someone else to fit them at a reduced rate.

From memory i think all the 1997-2004 cars have the same PSE part number??

I have a 1998 C2.

Regards

Nick

I would be very interested in the PSE version, was considering getting it fitted at my next series in mid Dec, so sooner rather than later would be better. Depending on the interest.

1999 C4

Provisional toss of my hat into the ring. 98 C2. If the plan is for one place to fit them that might be an issue. Mids - Derby here.

When I spoke to my friend I based the conversation on a supply and fit basis, I am aware that not everyone lives or can get up North easily, but depending on the discount (hopefully substantial) it may be worth a trip.

As soon as I find out I will post here.

Stu, any news?

I have been offered £895 + vat from Jasmine or £865 + vat with 5 or more orders.
The switch and wiring is a further £97.20 plus vat

Camtune
Prices for a Porsche Sports rear exhaust silencers and fitting of boxes and wiring in the switch is
Sports exhaust kit £1200.00
Wiring loom £90.00
Switch £30.00
Labor £416.50

To fit the system without the wiring and switch so it is always on loud , which some of our customers said they would rather ,will be cheaper .
Sports exhaust kit £1200.00
Labor £178.50

Parts quoted are rounded figures and will be slightly lower when invoiced .

All prices quoted are subject to VAT .

So any further ideas? Would an OPC be bothered to try and do this?

Nick

Sorry Camtune, forgot to mention 10% on parts for 5 orders.. and I would need to contact them to discuss if there were more!

Hi Nick,

When I spoke to him this afternoon, he was just awaiting a return call with regards to the prices (don't know who from). So hopefully I will have an answer for everyone tomorrow (30 Nov).

A pair of silencers from design 911 cost me £ 595 +VAT. I can't find a better deal than that.

I ordered them over the net, and also treated myself to some stainless steel tips because I had saved so much compared to the genuine PSE. The parts were delivered in 2 days with no problems. As yet I have not fitted them so cannot give an opinion on the fittment yet, but the build quality is second to none. The welding is perfect and the polished finish is brilliant, which I think is pretty good attention to detail bearing in mind that you can't see the silencers once they are fitted!!

The whole lot cost me under a grand including VAT and delivery. The quote from Porsche was well over £2000 for the same (but included fitting which apparently takes 4 hours max)

for the difference in price I don't mind not having the switch, how does this compare to OPC prices does anyone know?

I think my OPC supplied and fitted for £1350, after discount. this had no switch, but I would never have used the switch anyway. The default setting is 'on' and I've never encountered a situation where I would want to turn it off. It is never particularly loud, but always sounds gorgeous.

I would recommend trying to negotiate a deal with an OPC:
- It would then come fully warranteed
- It could not affect existing warranties on newer cars
- The Approved PSE should add value
- If you sell the car, it could always be removed and the old system retro-fitted
- It really improves the 996 with no compromises

Good luck

PS Any OPC still has to buy the PSE from Porsche Cars, and it is the price that Porsche Cars charge the OPC that limits the discount. In an ideal world Porsche Cars would offer a special deal on PSE for Club members, and each local OPC would then pass this saving on.

Hi All

This is the info I have been given by the Porsche Specialist (my friend who deals in the servicing and maintenance of Porsche):

Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE) kit for 996 (NOT Turbo) up to 2004 MY

Exhaust kit including fitting without switch

£1,234.40 + VAT
£1,450.00 incl. VAT

Exhaust kit including fitting with switch

£1,347.15 + VAT
£1,582.90 incl. VAT

"˜Please note there may be extra charges for new exhaust clamps/fixings, but only if required.'

I think he needs a minimum of 10 takers who are willing to leave a "˜20% none refundable deposit required' "" cash or cheque payment only, balance paid on completed work.

For those who are interested and want to speak to them or want to book their car in, please email me and I will give you their number so that you can deal with them directly. This is only open to Porsche Club Forum users.

Hopefully this doesn't go against forum rules "" ADMIN please let me know if it does.

Any questions, and I will try and deal with them.

Stu,

Well done mate, looks like a pretty good deal.. Where is the workshop? From the price it looks worth paying the little bit extra for the switch.

Regards

Nick

Just an observation, but......

The price without the switch seems more expensive than most people should be able to negotiate with an OPC.

But, the price with the switch seems cheaper.

Hi

Don't shoot the messenger! These are the prices that I was given by the garage, but, surely it is to do with the amount of extra work (or not) the switch requires isn't it?

Nick - The garage is in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire which, although may put some people off, it is close to the towns of Knaresborough and Harrogate (shopping and all that stuff!) or even Leeds for those who don't mind traveling a bit further. On the other hand there is a used Porsche dealer, less than a minute's walk from them who won't mind you having a look around.

Contact me for their 'contact details' if you want.
