PSE - New Crazy Prices

I'm sure this has probably been mentioined here before, but I just noticed the crazy increase that has occurred in prices for 996 PSE's. They now seem to be around the £2,800 mark. From memory they used to be closer to £1,000!

Makes you wonder how many owners are going to be able to afford/justify replacing their PSE mufflers when they eventually give up the ghost. Especially given the price range the cars are in now. Not sure I could justify replacing one of mine if it went. Are we going to gradually end up seeing more and more cars moving away from PSE's as and when they need to replace the mufflers and moving back to alternative sport exhausts or back to standard exhausts?

By the way, how long would it would be reasonable to expect the mufflers to last? Has me worried now!!

Cheers
Greg

Or get standard mufflers, either new or good 2nd hand and get them modified with the bypass pipe. It sounds exactly like the PSE if you use the right sized pipe except it is not switchable, which is good in my books.

That's true, but I actually love having the switch and use it all the time.

Hopefully I will get many happy years motoring out of my current ones anyway!

I needed a new system on my Carrera 4 last Spring. Spoke to my local OPC and there was lots of inhaled breath through teeth when I mentioned putting a PSE system on.

"Oooh... there's going to be lots of seized bolts...." "Ooooh.... it's an old car now..." "Hmmmm... it could take a lot of hours to get the old one off....."

After all the 'encouragement', I just replaced it with a standard system but I was puzzled why they didn't seem to want me to put a Sports Exhaust on it... they would have made more pennies from it!

Interested to see this thread as I called Porsche Centre Bristol before Christmas to book a service and asked about PSE prices as thought I would finally treat myself after having the car for nearly a year now.

To you sir, £4300! Needless to say, I declined, and just about managed to do so politely! How they ever think they're going to shift ay at this price is beyone me.

Blimey! That's a heck of a lot more than they quoted me. My quote was around the £2000 mark if my memory serves me correctly.

I had PSE Fitted to my C4S 2003 last Feb cost me £1850 and that included having the twin exhaust tips fitted. These were fitted by my Indy, at the time Porsche wanted £2250..

I think the main thing that p***** me off was the comment that "Oh, it's an old car and it'll be all rusted up...."

Very unlike the attitude I'd experienced in the last couple of years from my OPC. The comment and overall attitude from that person came across as being very condescending and they seemed to have forgotten that they are there to provide a service.
