PSE on GT4 ...

Guys

I have had my GT4 for a nearly a week now ... I think there may be something wrong with my Sports Exhaust - and would appreciate fellow Gt4 owners feedback ...

When i start the car and let it idle there is no difference between On and Off Sound unless i rev the car which i can't do above 4k at present ... When i had the GTS there was a discernible difference at idle between the on and off position and the car would spit and actually sound hollow and rough at idle but beautiful - the Gt4 sounds like a sowing machine in comparison! I can actually hear the flaps engage but there is no difference in noise or tonality at start up and at idle this is also the case at the end of a run when i put the car back in the garage it sounds just like a normal car ...

When i drive the car, i feel the need to put the windows down to hear the burble and bark better, which is there but only when moving on ... it rev matches and sounds good through a tunnel but when in normal traffic not as good as my GTS ... ;(

It all seams a little disappointing to be honest, as i was expecting more cabin noise and more Raw flat 6 on idle ... and then more deafening on acceleration!

All though the Gt4's at PPC were just the same ... ;(

Your thoughts ...

HaHa Ralph ... I here what your saying but the noise is 90% of the thrill for me personally ... OPC said it would get louder over time but that was probably BS - Now thinking of getting a GT3 ... LoL #ShouldHaveGotaV8

Try it through the Queensway Tunnel here in Birmingham. I did! (mine isn't a GTS) but it does have the PSE and I thought I was Steve Mcqueen at Le Mans :)

Do you want it to sound like this?

My GT4 also sounds the same at start-up irrespective of setting, still busrts into life in a pleasing way, though.

On the move and under load the difference becomes more pronounced with all the pops and crackles on the over-run.

I don't think you've got a problem as such, Andrew, it seems 'they all do that'. Mine is fully run-in and so I frequently use most of the revs and it is far from quiet, is yours run-in yet?

Hello Ian

Thanks for your post and reply. Mine has only 300 miles under its belt so not free revving yet ;(

I think your right, mine is normal and glad for your help to understand that. It does make better noise on the run so to speak and comes to life, then - as you say!

It would be nice to get more "warble" on start up - Its funny my 997 GTS made a great noise on cold start up but then never sounded as good once warmed up but the GT4 is the other way round ... boring at start up but on the move comes to life - best of both worlds would have been perfect, but i shouldn't complain, its a great car overall ...

Many thanks

Andrew

I've had my Cayman S since 1st March and it has just covered 300 miles and sounds fine but probably not quite as loud as the demonstrator I borrowed last Summer which had covered about 3,500 miles so I'm guessing the PSE will get louder over time.

Had a Cayman GTS before and agree the noise the GTS made was better than the GT4

just think porsche spent a bit of time trying to make the GTS sound different to the other Cayman's, with all its pops and farts etc and with the GT4 saw no reason to do so as it's a GT car?

anyway the gt4 is loud once you open it up but has its own sound and if you want more get some race headers fitted
