PSE Replicas for my Beast

They are similar/the same as the Oettle copies that many of us have bought in the past.
Do a search for Oettle+Porsche on Ebay.
They sound excellent, no boominess, not too loud, very quiet on the motorway.

I can't vouch for these particular ones. My exhausts were modded by Tony Wright at Wrightune who effectively did the same thing. It's a stainless steel pipe (well, Tony's was) welded into the same position as the switchable pipe on the PSE which bypasses a stage of the muffler, obviously not switched in this case. It's basically the same as the original sports exhaust. It changed the character of my car by far for the better. There is no power gain, so if that's your game look elsewhere and either way make sure you inform your insurance company that you have a sports exhaust.

Whether or not you get the eBay one, get one of some sort. You won't regret it.

I am looking at Exhaust options as mine may need replacing in the near future. I have been quoted £1800 at an indy for the Genuine PSE with switch fitted and the turbo style tips. Is this a good price ?

I paid that at my OPC 3 years ago, i didnt have turbo tips fitted. I noticed Autofarm and JZ Mactech are doing 10% off during November not sure if that would include exhaust systems though.

Just spoken to Tony for a quote - rather spend my hard earned here than there

paid just less than than that at Strasse in Leeds in the summer didn't include tips though, so your quote is probably as good as you'll get for genuine PSE. I shopped around all over OPCs, indies etc before going with Strasse.

Well worth it though as anyone who has PSE will testify

I have the Oettles and I love them. They really sound like the PSE. With the money saved I got the twin pipe tips for my '99 996 from Type911. There is no motorway boom and if you don't floor it, they are relatively civilised but with a growl. Or you can get someone to modify you standard boxes provided they are in good nick. When I took off my original boxes, they were rattling inside anyway so £350 all in was a good buy.

I have already got the PSE from the factory but I have been told it needs replacing (By OPC) or that it may need replacing in the near future but it is OK at the moment although rusty on the seams - by MOT tester. It is disappointing as I thought the PSE was stainless steel (it is mild stainless apparently) so I though it would last longer than 8 years.

My better half used to own an exhaust centre and when mine was MOT'd he had a look and recons it would take a day and the bolts will probably shear off and is best left to the Porsche specialist who is used to doing them. That is for the whole system though.

I had a reputable local garage fit the Oettle system, IIRC they charged me 1 hour's labour. A few of the bolts were rusted in and had to be cut off. It could be a real pain to fit them yourself as you're likely to need an angle grinder.

You are right about the rusted bolts especially the silencer to catalyst sleeve ones. I used a Demel to cut the 4 bolts off and as I had saved so much with the silencers, bought new sleeves for £20 each (x 2). Renntech do an article about the size of the new nuts and bolts required if you cut them off. I also got new clamps for the tips (£10 a pair from Type911 when I got the shiny new tips) as there is no hope of them coming off intact. With all the cutting the whole job still took me 1 hr all in. The nuts holding the silencer to the bracket should be fine if you WD40 them for a few days first.

I paid £1600 in Jan 07 at Redline Racing for a genuine porsche switchable system. They cleaned up and refitted my tips for this price too. Provided a courtesy car and did a great job, bypassing the sensor so the exhaust is loud all the time unless i switch it off.

I want the sports exhaust sound (not worried about a power increase) so I guess I'm better off buying the Oettles rather than paying all that money for an PSE system. Unless I've missed something?

If its just sound, go for the Oettles. You wouldn't be disappointed. Carnewal seem decent, other threads have mentioned them.

I been in touch with Gert Carnewal who has been really helful. I am off to Belgium for the day on my bike this Thursday so hope to get to meet him. Will report back on how I get on.
