PSE w/Switch Instalation Question to avoid cutout

Hi guys I am getting the PSE installed Wednesday with the switch by my OPC.

They will amend the installation so it won't cut out between 30 and 40mph but advised on some models it not always works, they suggested by not connecting a cable to the speedo that it should be either on all the time or off all the time depending on the switch position.

Has anyone any advise or experience on this, I am aware the diode cut modification "might" have implications with the cabriolet roof speed sensor, I have a smart top and don't want to lose its features so would like to avoid the diode cut in case I lose functionality.

Anyone any knowledge on any of these issues?

Appreciate the help

Its going on a 2000 C4 3.4 Cabriolet with Smart Top.

Hi,

I have done the diode 'cut' modification and it works a treat, now I just select either LOUD (default on start up) or QUIET using the button on the dash.

I'm not aware of the problems that can occur with a CAB, maybe someone else will be able to comment. It sounds like the OPC will just not connect the speedo cable to the PSE relay (same as cutting hte diode).

When they sam eon some cars it doesn't work, I wonder if they mean with the 997, as this uses the CAN-Bus (ECU) to control the exhaust valves when you select CHRONO ?

Cheers

Paul

PS: Your going to be MR Smileypants on Wednesday when you pick the car up... especialy if you can have the roof down. Best mod for a 911 [:D]

Ok guys I have the PSE in now, initilal reaction is - oh no what have I done! its a tad too noisey! I'm glad I got the switch!

Its bloody smelly too! Does it need to bed in? and please tell me it softens down! I cant actually hear the flat 6 now, just the exhaust!

Seriously I had to drive home with a paper bag on my head! he he he!

Sure they connected the switch !?!?!

The noise is actually a lot worse from behind the car... seriously, I thought my car was loud, then I followed my mate C4S in LOUD mode and thought JEZUZ H CHRIST that's loud!

Best place to test is Blackwall or Dartford tunnel....

Enjoy ![:)]

Seriously guys this is way too loud! I'm now driving and keeping the revs down below 2K! [:(]

I have to turn it off when I enter my estate! [:-]

Every single one of you said it was the best mod ever! and I bloody listened! [:D]

Thank god I can turn it off! although funny enough, apart from testing it does in fact turn off and it does, I havent driven with it off, but christ when it gets to 4k revs its way too noisy, I mean a nuisence noisy! [8|]

Some one please tell me it tones down when it settles in? [8D]

Your all a bad bunch of *@%ers! Have you no shame! [:)]

From what your saying... maybe there is something wrong with the fit ?

I can start my car in LOUD mode and it's not too loud to drive out of our estate as long as I don't go over about 2.5k rpm (and I live in a conservation area, where no commercial vehicles are allowed and the neighbours would let me know!). Over 4k rpm it is loud and you need to be in the mood for it, but it's still not SCOOBY PRODRIVE loud.

The button is there to save you needing to use a brown paper bag ! Out of interest, do you have your hearing aid turned up too much ? [;)]

He He Paul! I'm in my early thirties! Its my fourth car! I'm a young man! no som ol' fellow!

Yeah its in ok, below 2.5 and I am not noticed, at 4k revs I'm very noticed! But I usually drive around the 4k rev mark so I cant now!

But to works fine to switch it off, and reversing the black and white check valve on the hose in the engine should change the default setting to quiet.

The odd thing is I drove a same year c4 with PSE installed without the switch, (well bedded in one) and I dont recall it being so loud, now it was on a coupe, fingers crossed it just needs to fill up with engine deposits!

Well give it a few days and see how it feels then.

Only kidding about the old boy hearing aid... [:D]

I think it could be because your car is a CAB. When inside my car it's louder, but not outrageous... but Wednesday night my mate who bought my S4 (with Milltek exhausts) followed me for 30 miles round the M25.

He sent me a text "Mate, your car is LOUD! Heard it over mine and the CD (which was turned up loud) when you hooned past. Awsome! [:)]"... I went past him at 6k+ rpm with my foot to the floor [:D]

The noise is very directional . . . backwards and I think the coupe shields the driver from a lot of it.

I'd like my PSE to default to QUIET, if you figure out how to do it, please let me know.

Paul

I had mine done, the sounds fantastic. It will get louder too once it beds in. Its not too loud though, just turn it off if its took loud and it will go back to normal. I never turn mine off though and I drive with the window slightly open to hear it. Best mod ever. Oh and I am over 30 too lol

Update:

Ok a friend with this on his C4 coupe drove mine today and confirmed mine is noticibly louder than his, but it could be the cabriolet causing this perception, his is not fitted with the switch. I had him do a couple of drive bys and its not as loud from the outside as it is from inside, ie inside the car it appears to be very loud to the point I feel embarresed!, but outside its not so loud but sounds different to inside and very nice. Its definitly directional, standing on a 40mph limit road as a pedestrian and friend driving the car by me, I found the car is near on silent approaching me, and very pleasent on passing and departure, not near as it appears from inside. Under acceleration to high revs from the outside its actually very nice and I have to say I am thinking this is so much better than stock. Inside because its always with you, always behind you, I think your getting a resonance that is not actually happening to outside ears. I am coming round to the fact that this caused my initial shock, and I am sleeping better at night now!, I'm getting to like the inside gurgle I hear now, and am finding now with 100 miles up I can hear more of the engine than exhaust gurgle. I am thinking the sound is changing as it beds in, in a good way.

Oh I also find this is reminding me of driving a 964 or 993. Not excatcly the same but very very close. The benifits to me of the switch off button are well worth the money, especially in my neighbourhood.
