PSM & ABS Warning lights ?

Guest

New member
[] The PSM & ABS warning lights come on when I give it (996 c4 tips) some real stick. If I stop and restart they go off and stay off until I press the go peddle with " a bit of urgency". Has anyone got any ideas why the warning lights are coming on ?

Has anyone had the same problem ?

The car has been serviced & brakes (fluid, sensors, pads) changed. At the service no faults came up on the data gismo.

Suggestions please (slow steady driving is not an option).

Without knowledge of what you consider real stick it is difficult to give a useful answer as the lights should come on if either system becomes 'active' during driving although they should only flash and not stay on.

The easy solution is to get some black sticky tape and cover them up.[:-]

Thanks for the reply Tim.
My 996 is a Tiptronic S and by "stick" I mean put my foot down hard so that is drops a gear or two from 5th. The lights are not flashing to indicate that the systems have kicked in as normal. They both (ABS & PSM) come on at the same time (under sudden acceleration) and stay on until the engine is switched off. As soon as I restart the car the lights say off, as normal. I think that the ABS is still working even when the warning lights are on ?

I can drive quite fast and the warning lights do not come on.

(Now where did I put that black tape)

Only a guess, but is there a fault in the systems that only comes to the car's attention when the kick in? So the light stays on to warn you?

I'd be inclined to ask an OPC to plug their diagnostics in, just as a precaution.

Adrian,

I think your right. The PSM may be trying to kick-in and the faulty sensor is causing the lights to come on. I think the ABS system is still working even with the warning lights on. I tried rather hard braking on a wet road today (with the PSM & ABS warning lights on) and I'm sure the ABS was still working. It's a bit more difficult (and risky) to check if the PSM is working. Porsche, great cars but they are not simple. []
