PSM & ABS warning lights

hi, bought my first Porsche a few weeks ago, always wanted one so decided on a 2002 Boxster S as my tentative dip into Porsche. I love it already!

however, I was driving the other day and the car beeped and put up 2 fault codes, PSM & ABS. It stayed on until restart when it appeared to have cleared. Since then every time I drive the car it comes on after 2 to 4 miles.

a bit of background, the previous owner had only covered about 300-500 miles in total over the last 3 years (don’t know whether this may have any effect).

has anyone had any experience with this type of fault and possible causes?

thanks in advance!

Andy

Andy,

Low battery voltage can throw up different warnings. If the car's had little use and hasn't been on a battery conditioner it's possble that the battery is on its way out, so best to get it checked-out before looking elsewhere.

Thanks Jeff

my understanding from the previous owner is that the battery was replaced just over 2 months ago.

thanks for your help anyway.

I would echo the battery thing - even a new battery can have low charge - and boxsters are very sensitive to it - if you have the chance get a charger on it - and if it changes nothing after that - then you have to dig deeper. Ideally a scan with a porsche "aware" scanner (generic scanners won't have a clue about psm/abs), but as a general guess, one may well follow the other - psm is likely sulking because of the ABS fault - and that could be as simple as a brake light switch or a wheel sensor or could be a number of other things. Suggest get it into an independant specialist who can read the codes - or look out on here, or on boxa.net for enthusiasts local to you with the kit who will "scan for beer"

Thanks for the advice Andy.

i think I just need to get a diagnostic scan done and go from there.

thanks again

Andy
