changed the rears a couple of weeks ago, now i have the psm cutting in at lowish speeds mid corner, when i mean lowish i mean 50 mph ! ( my van takes these corners with ease at that speed ! ) so i have the car booked in for a look to see if i have a fault , the service chap has had this before and reckons it may be the fact i have new rears and worn fronts ! but i would expect issues at 75 mph + not 50mph, anyone else encountered this ? or do i just switch off the psm ? ( am i that brave !)
car is 1999 C4 with 18'' wheels and M030

thanks

how did you guess ? continental on front , but pirelli on the rear , i know its best to have the same all round but 50mph and the psm kicking in ! but the fronts not that bad , if i had new contis on rear would that cause the same problem ?
thanks

Take a look at this thread: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=54207&start=0

It is a bit lengthy, but the answer comes up on page 3. In her case they were Contis all round, but I suspect your problem might be slightly different tyre diameters. As Mark suggests, you would be better with the same make all round.

no-one 'sold 'me the tyres i purchased them, thought i would change to a different brand as the contis had done only 4.5k miles for £550 ( ouch ) yes the new ones are N rated for porsche.

thanks for the tread, she must be the previous customer that paragon were talking about to me , may as well cancel trip to garage and order a pair of fronts to match the rears, also car did'nt feel that great with the psm off , but i did go quicker !!

thanks

It is strange how often I hear comments about Contis lasting only 4-5000 miles on the rear these days. My brother had two sets of Contis on the rear of his (previous) 1999 C4, and got 12,000 out of each pair. I only got 4000 out of each of two pairs of Contis on the rear on mine, but I put that down to it being a Turbo. I can't see that Continental could have changed the compound without changing the N rating, so I find it very odd. I don't seem to recall getting these comments a couple of years ago.

I found the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso N4s to wear well on my C2, and the best value. The best overall were the Michelins, but the most expensive. The Yokos on my Turbo are wearing exceptionally well though, and I'm very pleased with them.

Let us know if new Pirellis sort it out.

Just an add on about the Conti longevity ..... I have Conti's on my C2 Cab, Fronts done 24K, Rears replaced at 17K, Fronts still with 5mm+ and replaced rears having done7K have at least 5mm ..... seems ok to me ... Image ...(PS I do enjoy the performance of my car !!!)

just been out and checked my rear contis have done over 6k miles so far still got 6mm left on them, must be not driving hard enough[:D]

Who are these who do more than 4k miles on rear Continentals? They must be a figment of my imagination. I've had 2 sets and the 2nd one only lasted 4k before hitting the 1.6mm tyre bars which is more than I would normally run tyres. I usually change them at 3mm which were what they were 2 months previously. I've had the alignment checked every time and also in between times and it is always spot on. On Michelins now to see if wear rate improves.

So far 10 000 miles on my michelins,great tyres,still got 5mm left
On my previous car got 18 000 miles on contis, boxter s
Figures are for rears

Thanks for the info Black911. I have just bought the same tyres except 295/30 on the rear for £680 all in with Kwik Fit.

My current set of tyres have worn unevenly with heavy wear to the inner edge particularly on the rears. I am thinking of getting the geometry checked along with a service before getting the tyres fitted at either OPC Guildford or Mid-Sussex. OPC have quoted me £268 for the geometry check, can anyone advise me if this is worth me doing and if OPC is the best place to go? I am based in Surrey.
Thanks

Just had a geo check done today for £91 at North Eastern Tyres in Newcastle, they used to do overflow work for PC newcastle so happy with the results,

problem solved, fresh pirelli's now fitted to the front matching the rears fitted a couple of weeks ago, car now back to normal ! just hope i get more than 4000 miles out of them !

hi yes same question as 75 pno has anyone put 235s on the fronts instead of 225s just to give a bit more rim protection specially with michelin as they dont seem to be quite as wide as pirelli but i dont want to upset the psm
