PSM essential option or not?

Hi,

I am currently looking for a 996. Undecided between a c4 and c2 but the c4 has the edge due to the more sure footed handling and the standard PSM.

If I went for a c2 should PSM be considered an essential option?

I am interested in peoples experience of cars with and without.

thanks

I lots of info re the c2 v c4 debate and note that PSM was not an option on the c2 until 2000. Do the pre 2000 cars have any traction control system?

thanks

Sorry for the noob questions....

My first 911 was a C4 with PSM. I found that PSM almost never comes on unless you have a lead foot. It's also pretty unsubtle when it does come on and just seems to cut the throttle. I went from that to a GT3 with no PSM and never missed it. I'm also doubtful that the C4 is actually any more sure-footed than the C2. In particular, the C4 has a greater tendancy to understeer, particularly in low to medium speed corners. I know that's supposed to be a safety feature, but I much prefer the adjustability on the throttle of the GT3. Faced with the choice again, I would go for the C2 every time. The presence or lack of PSM shouldn't really influence your choice on either model.

Yes - pre-2000 C2's had the option of Traction Control.

thanks for the replies

so, PSM may not be such an essential option as I first thought.

thanks

I've only ever known a Porsche without PSM and I've had no problems at all. Just how you drive it i guess and your ability to drive. In my opinion you'll only get it to cut in when you are doing something wrong. But who am i to know having never owned a car with it on except my Motorway muncher (A3) and i've never felt it cut in on that either

Personally i prefer a much more basic car without all the fancy bits on it. Pure is definately the way to go :). Only option on mine is the M030 suspension, carrera 18"s and the tinted top windscreen

But this is only my opinion of course. Each to their own
