PSM Fault - Hydraulic unit needed?

Hi, I've recently joined the club and I'm having problems with a PSM, ABS warning light on my 2000 996 C4 which keeps coming on now and again. I've been told by my local specialist the problem is the ABS, PSM hydraulic unit part 996 355 955 61 which costs together with the movement sensor around £2000 +fitting.

I have managed to get hold of the movement sensor.

Does anybody know where I can get a Hydraulic unit 996 355 955 61 cheaper from? or has had similar problems.

Many Thanks
Garth

Any idea what the fault code is? If you are getting an ABS pressure sensor error 4460, it is much more likely to be a problem with the brake pedal switch. It's quite a common problem, and a cheap fix (£20-ish part and 1/2 hour to fit).

as richard says have you changed the brake pedal switch as this is a common fault and causes such lights to come on, hell of a lot cheaper than£2000 if it doesn't fix it too.

Visited my local specialist yesterday, the psm and abs lights had gone out this week and no further faults were found. Had the switch changed anyway only £10 plus fitting. Fingers crossed and maybe the psm fault will be rectified.

Many thanks for your posts!

Hi,
I had the same problem with my 996 Turbo. Porsche must have replaced 4 or 5 switches over 12 months (thankfully under warranty) untill they identified it was an electrical brace or belt (probably not the technical name for it). However this was not under the warranty but certainly sorted the problem. One to bear in mind.
Sorry not technical at all, I just drive the car.

Cheers,
Donald.
