PSM Loss and Auto Stop-Start Fail - Alternative cause and solution

My 63 plate CS has spent the winter in the garage. Only coming out last weekend when the sun returned.

Anyway, long story short. After a lengthy drive, I reversed her up our drive to be met by a nasty squeal. It actually sounded like an internal alarm. There was nothing on the dash and all seemed OK. I had noticed the car was a bit more jerky in traffic, but put this down to the PDK 'box. Took the car out again to try and identify what caused the noise. 1/4 mile further on and the PSM failure came up followed by the auto stop-start failure. Pulled into a layby (on a hill) and looked around the car. All appeared well so tried to manoeuvre in the layby and noticed the brakes strongly grabbing.

After some research, it turned out the brake pedal was not returning to the off position. I could do so by hooking my foot under it!

Apparently, this is an identified issue and is remedied by replacing the pedal bushes (£10 part). Porsche GB have written to dealers advising they replace them under warranty if the customer complained (typical VAG!). Clearly driving with the brakes applied (and the brake light on) confuses the PSM module :(

I booked the car into Sheffield Porsche and they replaced the bushes under my extended warranty. Great service by them too.

Thought that might be useful for someone. I have a copy of the letter sent to dealers.

BTW, the bushes are a pain to fit because of where they are :(

Yes, a common failure and warning messages noted previously here and elsewhere. Plenty of time during the layup for things to bind-up a bit.

Good to hear that Sheffield got you sorted.
