PSM Switch & Spoiler Switch not functioning

Hi, My 09 Cayman S PSM Switch and Spoiler overide switch have both stopped functioning.

Have checked fuses etc, but nothing amiss. Am I correct in thinking the dual switch assembly has a control board built in and this is likely to be the issue? As far as I am aware the spoiler is operating in automatic mode, and I get the PSM warning light with ignition on, but it extinguishes on engine start up.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Neville,

Unfortunately I can't give you a definitive answer but I would have thought that since the two switches are on the same panel (and more importantly, adjacent to one another) the problem is local to that area. Have you tried pulling the panel and checking that all the connections are sound? It could just be that pulling and replacing the panel will do the trick.

The PET for your 2009 Cayman shows a combined switch block (Illustration: 903-005, item 12 in the Electrics group) but whether or not there's an electronic module associated with it I don't know. You may have to resort to contacting a Porsche dealer to get that information and they'll probably recommend an initial diagnostic check.

I suppose you could just take a chance and replace the switch block, but I suspect that it's going to be quite expensive unless you can source an identical used part, which could be tricky because there are a number of switch options including Sports and Sports Exhaust.

I just went and checked my switches and with ignition on pressed the PSM switch then turned the key and the light went off, press again and it came on with the engine running ( note that when the light is on PSM is actually off ) I could also switch between on and off indicated on the dash instruments.

The Spoiler, when selected rises whether engine is running or not provided ignition is on, the light only illuminates when selected from the switch.

Thanks for the responses. I have checked the connections and nothing obvious, I have ordered a new switch panel which will hopefully solve the issue.

Regards

Neville.
