Puncture in Brand New Pilot Sport!!!

Guys and girls,

I would be grateful of your help please.

Went to get into my 987S (5 weeks old) tonight and was greeted with a front nearside puncture in my Michelin Pilot Sport shod 19" Carrera S wheel []

Unfortunately picked up a screw at some point and the rest is history. I have the option of calling Porsche Assistance to pick up the car and take it to the local OPC (Porsche West London) or get a mobile fitting outfit round to sort it out.

No doubt the former option is likely to be the more expensive one, but can anyone recommend a mobile outfit I can trust my 'pride and joy' with (in South West London) as this would certainly provide the least hassle and give me some hope of getting out in the car this weekend?

Thanks all.

I am also looking for a good tyre fitter for a set of pirelli's in the Bournemouth area (somewhere that will take care of the rims when fitting and offer a reasonable price). I'll be driving up to London today so not to restricted in area though would be good to know if there is a good local outfit.

Is the can of goop no good to get you to a decent tyre fitter?
[]If you use that can of goop any chances of having the tyre repaired go straight out the "can" Bring back the space saver tyre for MY06 []

True.
I had not considered that Mark wanted to repair rather than replace.

Try a place called Denmead Tyres. Not too far from you and they are a Pirelli authorised performance centre. I bought 4 new P Zero Rossos or my Boxster a while back and they were excellent on price (about 540 including fitting and geometry set up to my spec) and took great car with the wheels.

The owner and service manager are both Porsche owners and take great care. Fantastic service overall.

Thanks Guys.

I am a bit wary of repair on such performance tyres and I think I will just have to bite the bullet and replace it with a new one. Just a little p***ed off that it happened on what is effectively a brand new tyre.

Could use the 'goop' I guess but it seems like a lot of hassle and I think I remember reading (somewhere on the forum ?) that if you're not careful and the goop escapes and gets onto the bodywork, then you are left needing a respray!! The advice on delivery from my OPC in the event of having a puncture was to simply call Porsche Assistance and let them deal with it - given that we are all busy people I think that is what I will end up doing!

Thanks for your help.

[&o]Mark I have had 2 tyres repaired on previous Boxsters with no repercussions and one of the punctures, caused by a bloody big bolt, held up fine using the biggest possible patch available! The repaired tyre never lost a single 1lb of pressure more than any of the other tyres between monthly pressure checks. I was told the patch would either work 100% or the tyre may lose pressure slowly in which case a new tyre would have to be fitted. At the time the car had only done 1000 miles so I was pleased I had a repairable puncture as its very easy to get a puncture that cannot be fixed []

A colleague at work with a brand new Jag got an un-repairable puncture too near sidewall! so he had to fit a brand new tyre, only to get another punctured tyre the very next day but driving a few yards too far on a deflated tyre damaged the sidewall [] So 2 punctures in 2 days on a car with under 2000 miles on the clock was an expensive exercise! Hope you have much better luck with your new rubber

I've just had this exact same thing happen to me. Noticed this morning that i've got a huge great bolt through my tyre - bloomin Yokohama with less than 2k miles of running on it!

I left the screw in so it didn't deflate totally and then inflated the tyre as much as I dared before taking it round to our local tyre suppliers (driving very VERY slowly).

They had the tyre off and repaired in 15 minutes and it cost me £7.50! What a bargain - definitely better than the £200.00 plus I was being quoted for a brand new Yoko!

Good luck! [:)]
