Punctures

So it seems one of my back tyres has a puncture. I've no idea how long ago or how many miles I've done with low pressure. Even when I noticed I wasn't convinced but it is dropping from 44 to 32 over a couple of days. I noticed nothing in the driving even when really trying.

Why don't we have tyre pressure sensors - 928s did 15 years ago or was it another option I didn't get?

So it might be repairable or it might not. I have concerns for 2 reasons.
I have PCCB and I am terrified of damage to them. I've tended to use a branch of a localish chain for other things but I'm more than slightly reluctant for this, rightly or wrongly. They been pretty good but one slip and I'm in trouble.

Also if they remove the tyre and find it damaged at the price of N PS2 tyres I will want to look round for the best price. However in the past these places have refused to put a damaged tyre back onto a rim. In that case I used the spare but don't want to on the 996.
Can I insist they put it back on?
I'll hunt round and speak to the tyre fitters but who does Pilot PS2 N3 cheapest?

I'd be carrying out a search in advance to find a decent fitter with the tyres you want at a good price, just in case you need to buy a tyre. I'd imagine that if you just turn up to have the puncture repaired & the tyre is damaged, there would be no negotiation over tyre price as they've got you by the short & curlies!

Try Blackcirlces for a quote, you can specify a local tyre place on their 'approved' fitter lists. When I've needed new tyres I've negotiated a price with my regular tyre fitter after finding the best price online. Usually they want to do a deal to get the business.

Certainly would want to have a choice of fitters with ceramic brakes! Have you tried the OPC? I've read that they can be competitive on tyre prices.

Thanks.
I'm also trying not to set myself up for them not repairing it if they can. Call me cynical but ringing to sort out a price for a new one and then asking them to try to repair it seems unlikely!
BC fitted price is 315, camskills 215 plus fitting

243 fitted and very locally - seems a good deal?

Should I have 2 wheel guides in my tool kit as I have PCCB? Haven't actually looked under the boot floor [8|]

Seems a good price, I've sometimes used the Camskill price & then advised my preferred tyre fitter that I've had a quote from another tyre place at a price that's circa Camskill plus £20. Sometimes I've got them to match, other times not so lucky. Cheeky I know but if you don't ask you don't get!!

I guess the main thing is to only let people you trust work on your P&J.... In these instances I don't mind paying a little extra to know the car is bring looked after.

check around

costco have another offer on

last time i bought tyres for the golf PS3's mytyres was the chespest

and obvious black circles camskill

if you are looking for fitter as well you could try Event though they arent usually the most competitive but if in their catchement area they will fit at home and you can stand over them although didnt make much difference in my case as he has smeared so much adhesive on i didnt see the paint being removed

The good news is that I do have 2 wheel guides in the tool kit. The bad news is that both the locking wheel nut on the car and the adaptor to get it off are fubared so wheel nut isn't easy to get off!
So anyway car is going to Steve Bull's on Monday to finally sort it out!

And sorted! Steve managed to get the nut off without too much trouble and a repair was thought appropriate.
And I got to drive a Corsa for a day. Dull you may think (well it was really) but without sounding too much of a billy big bollocks I don't drive things like this now and its nice to see how things change. Last small hatch I drove was my sisters diesel corsa a few years back and that was truly dreadful. Anyway for a town car it was fine, comfortable and easy to drive. No guts but what do you expect.
