Ok had my first Porsche, a 911 sc targa, loved it .Had my second Porsche a 968 Sport , Loved it . now going for a 993, but which one.Should i go for a Carrera 2 or 4, varioram or pre varioram,S or not. Probably not due to price!! All comments will be gratefully received on aspects of purchasing a decent one ,to continue my love of all things Porsche
PS Comments on Targa's and Cabriolet's also appreciated.

Steve,

You will get people saying this is better than that and for them that maybe perfectly correct. My advice is decide on your budget and go out and try several 993s, whether it is a manual, tip, LHD, RHD, cab etc. They are all good cars.

By way of a starter for ten, this is a car I have looked at which has a load of reciepts, MOTs etc and a lot spent on exhaust system and wheels. I have no connection with the seller and the only reason that I did not go ahead with the deal was because it did not have aircon. http://tazho.com/

Thanks for the tips, I shall try and drive models that I particularly like, to see the difference, my budget is around £30k. My cars are weekend cars, not daily drivers.

I like the idea of the Targa unlike Targa's before. My wife who also likes to drive it prefers the manual 6 speed as per my previous 968 Sport. Maurice your purchasing tips are really helpful, I'll try to adhere to them and not my instant and initial love at first sight. I'll let you know how I get on at a later date. Many thanks. Steve B

well the Targa is an amazing car.. surprised me...

although the chassis is based on the cab rather then the coupe.. the roof system makes the car fell very solid.. no scuttle shake at all...

vision is improved + more headroom and driving with the roof open is a joy....... the roof can make a noise as the car gets older, or it doesnt.. my 90k miles Targa is very quiet..... although & obviously the car is slightly more road noisy than the coupe..

I would check one out in the flesh to see if you like it... the question is.. is it worth the premium and can you find the right one in your sepc... I found Tiptronic Targa's were a plenty.. not many manuals around.....

Was the car as good as it looks on the web site? Sure looked sweet, what a great colour.

I also drive a Fiat Coupe in Ink Black but every time I see one in yellow I think it looks so cool, but wasn't brave enough to buy one.

I'm thinking the same with this, it looks so cool but!!!!

Yes it drove well and came with a box full of reciepts. It was also featured in a photoshoot for 911 & Porsche World.
