Pushed by a Staff Car

Had some black Staff Car, with a three pointed star on the bonnet, pushing me up one of our local dual carriage ways. Less than amused "the cheek of the man" I gave it some (quite a lot) of beans and was a bit disappointed that he didn't become a complete spec in the rear view mirror. I had pulled out a bit of a gap but no where near the demonstration of total dominance that I was hoping for. [&o]

He pulled off left at the next roundabout which revealed an AMG badge on the rear corner. I think he might have been more disappointed than I was in the long run. [:)]

Console yourself with the fact that it probably cost 10 times what yours did. Although I don't suppose he had to foot the bill (other than on his tax return)

I do like the big AMG's personally, and of course in black. An E55 AMG estate would be nice.

What do you think of the new Merc CLS then? It's a divided opinion amongst my mates. Personally if it's the AMG, in Black, big shoes then it sounds deadly.
Although there is a 05 DB9 around our place here and it makes a lovely sound.

There is no denying the Mercs have a presence about them, though I've not been over awed by those which I have driven. The episode just made me grin as a fairly ancient car was able to hold its own or even embarrass something at the cutting edge and perhaps 15x the value.

I'm not normally one to race on the road, but inspired by Mr Sims escapade I found myself in a situation today with a new BMW M3 CSL. I was behind him and I could tell by the way he was pushing the car infront of him that he was going to 'gun it' as we joined the motorway so conditions and road were good I thought I would see if I could keep up once the mighty road going cruise liner moved out of the way.
Like the Merc, I consider the M3 to be a fairly quick and expensive car and I think he was suprised he couldn't shake me off as he could not make any improvement on the 20-30yards gap between us and if anything I might have gained on him a little. The tussle lasted only 30 seconds before the motorway's joined and I backed down as we had gone a fair few notches past the speed limit and would not have been safe.
However I think it might have been a different story from a standing start as I cannot get a decent launch.
