Small disaster[][:'(][][:'(][] - the roof won't lock shut.

it 'just about closes - but the last action, when the locking mech. in the front edge tightens it down ontop teh head of the windscreen is failing, or only part tightening[:-][:-]

Anyone have any suggestions[8|],
will try the manual locking tools to see if they'll tighten up this last bit.
Thanks

I had this problem (for the first time) at the weekend. Might be related to lack of use of the retracting roof over a five month period...

The cure was to wind down the windows and then activate the roof - it shut normally with the windows open. Might need to rock the switch back and forwards a couple of times to coax the roof shut but it gets there eventually. Haven't tried it since Sunday. Might work for you. best of luck.

Michael,

sort of Solution!

( thansk for suggestion- tried opening windows early on, but no joy )

Looking up at the locking mech. I could see the locking bolts were only couple of mm from where they would lock into a chanel, and pull the roof down tight ).

Solution [:D][:D][]( albeit a stop-gap )

When closing the roof, lower driver's window, then, just as roof 'lands' ontop of windowscreen, put your arm out of the window, and push inwards and upwards against the roofframe ( above the driver's window ) - this seems to be working ( hopefully not tempting fate[] )

Also - in the driver's manual Cabrio suppliment: Emergency Operation, page 7:
turn each lock about 10 turns with a screwdriver, working alternately on the two locks until the folding top locks can be seen to lock ( indicator light off ) .....doesn't sound hugely exact[:'(]. ( these two locks are under side fo the roof, at the front, with black plastic surrounds and a slot/groove opening for the screwdriver.

Hope that helps any other soft-top owners out there[8D]

Had the exact same intermittent issue with my roof (which had had the recall done) and had the following work done:

1). General alignment check etc
2). Both roof gearboxes stripped and rebuilt
3). Both micro switches situated in the front of roof replaced

Despite all of the above the roof continued to fail without any rhyme or reason, one minute it would work the next not.

I did some extensive research on Rennlist and posted the issue and due to the feedback subsequently had the cold solder joints in the roof ECU resoldered, which to date, appears to have solved the issue.

The absolute pain in the backside is that every time you close the roof you never know if it's going to work"¦..

I read that. Apparently it's a known issue.

Hi Tivbucks and Porker993,

thansk for suggestions/info.[:)]

looks at tho mine is not quite aligning , as tho the roof catches are 1-2mm short of reaching the slot they get pulled down into ( if that make sense ) - so hopefully trip to roofer will fix it[8|][:-][8|]

but might jump in the deep end and get the roof ECU re-soldered at the same time,

Totally agree that angst of not knowing if it will close properly is almost as bad as if it does indeed not close![]
