Qs on used at OPC

Hi Chaps,

I am looking at a used S late 2004 from an OPC. I am slightly concerned it has 2 owners and its given its short life... but probably not justified..

Anyhow, I am just wondering can you guys offer advice to a newbie owner on what Q's I should ask the OPC above and beyond the norm. I have asked about he well known RMS etc.. and accident/ repair work... as usual he is confident car is fine.... but I am a sceptic about everything....... :))

also what discount should I push for?

Also, it has PCM, will this be way out of date???

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
GG

Being late 2004, it will be still under manufacturer warranty till late this year, try and get an additional full year extended warranty in the deal then you don't have to worry about things like RMS etc. Tell them you can always go private as it would also be covered by the same manufacturer warranty, so you are not really getting anything out of the additional premium you will be paying by buying from the OPC. What is their asking price?

Asking about RMS is not much help as if it has had one replaced then it would usually not re-occur again but if it has not had one replaced, then it can happen in the future or never happen ever... You can do a search on the forum on RMS or even google it and draw your own conclusion.

When you say late 2004, is it the new 987 model (MY2005, after September 2004) or the last batch of 986 (which would probably be a September delivery worst case)?

I would not worry about having two owners as long as they give you all the receipts for service (should have only had one) and any other warranty work done. What sort of mileage has it done?

PCM: Try and get the lastest CD/DVD that that PCM model can take out of them.

PCM is likely to be the 2004 one, which i think was the last version for the 986 model PCM

2 owners not unusual, but check whether it was a demo car first (so you know its full history)

Discount - ÂŁ2k off their sticker price, walk away if not as there's plenty around.

Trouble is you are buying at the right time for the dealers, wrong time for haglging

OPC w(**&%s.....

Called this OPC sale guy, told him really interested in car, basically perfect match... it was late, said he would call me in the morning to discuss price after I made an offer..

3 days later no call... called him...... he tells me car is sold... they really really wind me up...I stopped short of calling him a whopper :) if you know what I mean, restrained and hung up.........

My experience to date with OPCs is v v v v bad... shame given my passion for Porsche Cars........

Write an email to the dealer principal setting out the facts such that they can address their customer service issues, and advise that you will be buying a Porsche, but not from them. If you don't tell them, they'll never know. Change you're OPC - they're not all bad. I can recommend OPC Colchester - friendly, responsive, proative the lot.

What/ Who is the Dealer Principle?

The boss - hence principal not principle! [:D] Others may have ruder suggestions re the principle..... [;)]

You have our sympathy, at least. A member of my family spoke to an OPC salesman at about 4pm,and confirmed he wanted to buy. He offered to give a cc number for a deposit there and then over the phone, but the salesman said not to worry, pop in tomorrow morning. 9:30am the next morning, he walked into the dealership to be told the car had sold since their call. He started with the salesman, tore a strip off him, and steadily worked his way up to the dealer principal.

I haven't come across one OPC that has consistently honoured their promises to call back etc etc, even when buying a new car for cash. They seem to think they are above everyone else. Write to the head honcho, the more people do this the sooner they'll change their attitude.

I have to add a vote to the Thumbs up to one of the OPCs .. Its not all Doom and Gloom

We have an excellent relationship with our Sales contact at Reading OPC.

Also the Service Department is excellent too ..

Apart from all of them getting the ocasional "Mr" and "Mrs" as "Mrs is a Dr" all mixed up .... results in Sue geting calls re my car and I get calls re her car.. but hay if thats all I have to complaign about

Ummm... I have - Swindon. Which is why my nice shiny car has numberplates with their name on them! [:)][:)]

I have no problems with the OPC at Cambridge [in Harston]. They always return calls etc. and give a PCGB 10% discount.

Give them a try.

Hehe :)) my spelling again.

So is that the official title of the "boss" of a particular OPC? i.e. Dealer Principal.....

Thumbs up for OPC Cambridge too.

Occassionally their blunders work to your advantage (I said occassionally); I got a letter for one Mr J McLeod (If this is one of you, then sorry, especially if you are part of the Immortal Highlander family[;)]) from OPC West London giving me a test drive on a car of my choice. Well, I rang back to tell them to correct the address and asked if I could have the test drive too and also stated that I am not planning to buy or exchange a car yet (so I do not get sales call after)...
