quarterlight window rubbers

I'm going to post this thread on as many registers as i think may be able to help me!

On pre 993 targa and convertible models, there is fitted to the top of the quarterlights a seal/stop for the main door window. Mine are badly worn door to excessive travel of the windows, (badly adjusted to meet the roof seals).

Does anyone know how to replace these 'bits'...I have bought a pair from Porsche Chiswick, but from as far as I can see, the upright support is either welded or riveted in somehow....

Any help on this would be appreciated.

from memory on my 78SC and if we are talking about the same bits Ithink they are screw fixed from the top . I'll look at my car over the next few days and confirm .

Just looked , if the item arrowed in the picture is what you are describing then it is fastened in place with two phillips head screws.

Thanks Bones, but Porsche are a little more cunning than that, ...in the vertical spar that joins the top 'joint' there is hidden, i believe 2 rivets, but i dont know how to get to them!! The replacement units certainly have 2 holes in the vertical fixing strap!

I have a sneaking suspicion, that it has to be the door card off, slacken the fixing bolts to the vertical spar, undo the 2 screws you mention, remove the quarterlight glass to access the rivets....but I hope not.....

Anymore ideas please...

Yes I sometimes use a word begining with c when working on the 911 and it's sometimes idiosynchratic engineering but it is not cunning! having said that it is a straightforward job to remove the door trim . The job I hate most is glueing the plastic 'waterproofing' back on.
