What are the visual differences between the 924 Turbo S1 and S2?
Can you tell the difference between them without opening the bonnet?

The S2 had indicators on the front wings. I expect there are other clues somewhere.

You are absolutely right. I think the S1 had green digits on the gauges, but these cars are so old now that anybody could have updated the minor cosmetic differences anyway. I have what I bought as an S1, with white dials, side repeaters and definitely an S2 engine ( I have seen the pistons and they are not S1 pistons which are different). Further more the anti-roll bar is of the earlier type with long drop links to the wishbone. The feature immediately noticeable under the bonnet is the throttle body. I have never seen one up close but it looks like the S1 used the standard 924 butterfly, or something similar, mated to the pressure duct with hose and jubilee clips. Infact I would be gratefull if someome could fill this void in my mind of useless information because it just so happens that I have an enlarged throttle body for a 924; now could I mate that to a series 1 pipe and get 10 more ponies for 187bhp? Oh plus say another 8 or ten for the modified cam from my old 924. A 200 horse 924 turbo? SCARY!

Without opening the bonnet eh, ? that makes it more difficult.

I would agree about the side repeaters, but I think that is the only external clue. Inside the car the s1 does have green gauges, the s2 white (and early 944 yellow). Trim wise I think the s1 had brown / black pascha, but the s2 had pinstripe. Not really too sure on the last point though.
