question about the under sill body moulding

Hi team,

The #2 black plastic strip that runs under the sill has come off - no surprise as it had been glued on.

See the picture for its current state - do I get multiple sets of 3,4,5,7 to reattach it properly or has that ship sailed?

If the car is original there should be studs protruding from the floor to bolt it onto.

If it's been glued on, then odds on they're rotten or non existent so it's a free for all on how to attach it. Adhesive a bad idea as it just holds the moisture there.

All the studs are still there - the one I have pictured here is in the worst shape though should clean up ok - shows the plastic nut #7 and the remains of #3 -

I'm not sure how it fits together with #6 and how it connects to the moulding as there are two holes on the moulding?

If you undo all the residual stuff on there it looks like the moulding has snapped previously. The Moulding / sill trim should just offer up to the studs and bolt in. I think #3 only relates to the section where the front trim join the main trim. Mine were all rotten so had to come up with my own solution.

On the drawing it certainly looks like the moulding can simply be bolted onto the studs, but as you can see from the photo of my moulding in my first post, I don't have the holes to offer up to the studs - it looks like clips/pieces are missing that were previously attached to the moulding (hence the two rusty holes on the moulding)?

The moulding should bolt up - looks like yours has snapped and been tidied up. It's a crap photo here but this shows mine.

You may have to make some brackets (2mm steel should be simple enough to do) or invest in some new trims.

you can clearly see the brackets that attach to extended screws from chassis.

As I have just taken mine off, here is a pic of them and

This is very helpful Greg and Schnell many thanks - I now see that some creative person must have removed what remained of my brackets and pop riveted on some steel brackets that were then removed and the mouldings were glued on instead.

I'll have to buy new mouldings -

Does anyone know what the difference is between the 'normal' moulding and the satin black one (see attached image)? Aren't they always satin black?

I think at 30 years old they’re generally Matt grey! I didn’t know there were two options unless the Cabrio is different?

A quick test this morning - I washed the trim. On the right is with Gtechniq applied and to the left just cleaned.

+1 for Simon @ 9apart. He got me functional turbo expansion tank for a very reasonable price not long ago when I needed one quick, and they are rocking horse poo in decent 2nd hand condition.

I was after a hose as well, of which he did have one, but it was perished, so he had a rummage about and chucked in a few hoses for me free of charge of similar diameter so I could cut something to size. Top service.
