Only recently noticed (bit of an oversight after 10 years!!) that on the registration document my 911 is noted as a coupe; it is in fact a targa. Do you have the ability to check your database against my car details ? - the chassis no. 91A0134182, engine no. 6303946,
many thanks,
david

Curiously the database doesn't generally list Targa or Coupe but has most of the other details. The database only contains the information members have supplied. There are only two Targas registered out of a total of 700 SCs! Send your details to the DVLC they should amend the log book for you.

Hi If Its any help on the early cars the fifth didget in the Vin no indicates the body type 0=coupe 1=targa I think this is still the same on the SC Regards Berny.

David,
My log book shows a cabrio and the car is a 82SC Targa. The only important body to know the true car type is your insurance company.
The chassis number your car has is Porsche what was called an interim solution before changing over to the international standard so you cannot tell what body type it is. For your info below is the detail from a book called Porsche 911 Red Book.

91A0134182

91= 911 (turbos had 93)
A = 1980
0 = factory of manufacture
1 = 911 (turbo = 0)
3 = engine version (3 rest of world, 4 USA, 7 Turbo)
4182 individual build number. The book shows 4,831 cars built (europe and japan) US 4,272 and turbos 840 for this year.

6303946

the engine is a 930/09 188 hp @5,500 rpm 188 foot-pounds of torque @ 4,200 rpm compression ratio 8.6:1

The M option for Targa build was M446.

Hi Berny nice to see you've been here!. If members wish to check the details of what is stored on the database you can of course ask me but the best way to do it is to ring HQ and check there as they can amend the hard disk and paper copies which is something I can't do. For what it's worth my Targa is described in my log book as a 'convertible' but who cares what the DVLC have in their records for my car, I hate bureaucrats - period.
Dan your car is not described on the dastabase as a Targa but neither is it described as a Coupe or a Cab' , ring HQ if it bothers you.

Thanks for your replies. Interestingly I was alerted to this anomaly by my PCGB renewal notice which stated "Coupe", even tho I've given the club the correct details-mmmm.
The reason for concern on the log book entry was in case of resale - more eagle-eyed punters than me may have questioned the discrepancy,

thanks again.

I've just received my new type UK Registration Certificate for my Targa. It shows -
Make : PORSCHE
Model/Type : blank
Body Type : COUPE
I think the DVLA don't recognise TARGA as a body type, though it did used to appear on the early V5 Log Books with Make : PORSCHE 911S TARGA , but COUPE still appeared under Model/Type.
I will return my document to ask for 911S Targa to be added under Model/ Type on this new document.
It's all a bit confusing!
