Question - Keyless start?

Hi all, anyone out there have the keyless start function? I have this function on the 'grown up' car and find it to be really convenient.

On the Mercedes the keyless start function is literally a button that is placed into the key slot that rotates the ignition lock when pressed. I assume the transponder in the key has already has disabled the immobiliser etc. I know this because the car wasn't PDI's correctly and the button was provided separately bu the dealer, and it is installed but literallya simple push into the ignition.

Looking at the Mercedes ignition and the Porsche ignition they look very similar in the way they operarte and was wondering if anyone could confirm it is the same and that by simply buying the 'starter' button from the OPC it would function in the same way?

all the cars getting stolen are the keyless start cars, best avoided imo.
Keyless start, not keyless entry!

The transponder remains in the key, as long any thief has some thing that will turn the ignition, in Porsches case a blank case from eBay would suffice, its no difference to the button I describe on my Mercedes. The thief has already stolen the transponder code either way.

Now keyless entry is another thing as that aligned to the key and sensors on the lock. What I describe is purely mechanical operation. If I think on I'll take some pictures to better illustrate.
