question on door window scraper seals as supplied by Design911.

Morning all

Has anyone fitted window scrapper seals as supplied by 'Design911'? I bought a set for both doors last year and did try to fit one but couldn't get it to lock down, on further investigation it was noticed that these seals are slightly different to the originals on the car (86 951) there is a small lip missing which on the originals seems to be a part the part that helps locks the seal down. I asked my son to take a look and it was he who noticed the differences and is convinced that without this moulding the replacement seals from 'Design911' won't fit as they need this to hold the seal in place.I was busy at the time and just put this on the back burner but now I want to get these little jobs sorted. I have looked at PET just to see if there are any differences in model years, checking both '85' and '88' PET's, they all seem to be the same although

I have recently looked at PET just to see if there are any differences in model years, checking both '85' and '88' PET's, they all seem to be the same on the drawings but on my car there's a metal strip that fits into the moulding, I couldn't find this strip on either PET.
I realise that there has been much written about the problems in fitting these seals but don't recall anyone describing what I have here, so before I contact Design911 for their views I thought I'd ask the question here. In the meantime I have ordered a new set of the clamps and will try one more time just in case I'm missing something simple, my son reckons I'm wasting my time as he's convince the seals won't fit....we shall see.
Any comments/experience of these seals would be most helpful, especially in regards to Design911, has anyone got these to fit?

Cheers

Pete

You need to remove the Black metal trim strip that runs along the bottom of the window. You Clip the scrapper seal into that then fit the seal and the trim in one piece.

Any pictures you could supply of this would be well received I think Pete. I too for one want to do this over winter. Everything I have read so far though suggests it is a major PITA.

not sure that I understand this.....'bottom of the window'? the only metal strip that I can recall fits inside the seal, iirc this strip won't fit in the replacement seal due to the missing part of the moulding, just a small rubber lip. I'm going purely by memory here, alas memory which isn't that great these days.
Rob, the car isn't apart right now so can't give pictures yet...will do so once I try to sort this, hopefully over the weekend if I can find the time.

cheers

Pete

It is a significant PITA - I've done it on mine and can vouch for it. I bought my scraper from Max at Frazerpart and it fitted as it should so can't help you Pete with the ridge, sorry.

Given how hard the window scraper seal is I'm experimenting with some rubber rejuvenation stuff to extend the life of mine as much as possible. I'll keep you posted.

is this right? I purchased original Porsche seal, clips and metal trim and still struggled....
im trying this this weekend[:)]

Ken when you tackle it could you post some pictures please. I have had a genuine one fitted to the drivers door by the paint shop and whilst he did not say it was a PITA he did say you need to take the glass out. I have since bought the passenger side one from Porsche and its sat on my kitchen table waiting to be fitted.

Along the bottom of the window there is a black metal trim. If you look at the front of the window you'll see it goes into a triangle shaped jointing piece, at the rear of the window it clips into the door pillar. You need to remove this trim along with the scrapper seal and then fit the seal into the trim and then fit both parts together. The trim runs all the way round the window and is press fitted to the door frame. I haven't got any photo's of a door to hand but if you look at your door you'll see what I mean.
