question on UK stereos and FM frequencies

Hi chaps,

I'm currently seeking for a nice stereo for my car.

I find stereos are cheaper in the UK than in Europe but I'm reluctant to buy a unit which wouldn't work here in France. I know US stereos aren't compatible with our frequencies (87.5-108) but can't find any reliable information about stereos sold in the UK.

Any idea about it ?

When you drive in Europe, can you hear the whole FM band on your stereos ?

Thanks in advance.

Without going out to check exactly, thats pretty close to our range I know I have stations stored at 107.6 and 88.2, with a bit either side,

Interesting question ...

If you look at Car Audio Direct (quite good suppliers) they list the frequency range for some (if not all) of their units. For instance here:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-dexp90rs-p-3874.html

... it lists a very expensive unit as having "Frequency range: 87.5 - 108 MHz", which is exactly what you quoted.

So, I'd guess the UK and France are the same.

Oli.

I bought my head unit from Germany and it picks up UK frequencies just fine "¦ so I'd assume that you'll be okay.

I've never noticed a problem when in France, RDS text included, but I guess I don't necessarily know what frequencies I might have been missing. I think even my DAB worked there though, so long as I was in reasonably populated areas at least.

From memory UK FM is 88-107.9MHz. New Zealand is the same and Japan is significantly different, but I don't know any other country specifics.
