Here goes

My car is very comfort spec and i would like to know if the following parts are available without needing to get a mortgage:

1. The seats that take harness's and hold you in a bit as mine are the standard comfy ones, i thought about going for full race bucket seats but i have rear seats in mine for the kids so it would be nice to have the matching proper Porsche ones for now.

2. Steering wheel without airbag.

3. Brake air ducks for front bumper

4. Rear carpet set with RS logo to replace rear seats when the kids are to big.

Of course i would retain the original parts from points 1, 2 and 3 as this is how the car was built.

After talking to Paul Howells ref settings and checking car with my basic gauges i realise my geometry needs altering, anyone have any suggestions other than dealer due to complexity and if not can recommend one in NW London/Herts area?
Just read about Centre Gravity in Porsche Post, anyone had experience?

It has taken me an age to sort the few jobs since purchase that the car needed as work has been manic but its all done now other than the above and i shall be taking it to Classics on the green night in Croxley next Wednesday (work allowing), after that it will get some serious use.

Chris at centre of gravity is excellant I have had my 993 and early car set up by him and the cost was minimal

Chris was busy when i called him yesterday but was good enough to call me back today, he sounds very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. he has quoted me £340.00 + vat for road package or £450.00 + vat for track package, the later sounds favorite which he says can take approx 8 hrs. This includes corner weighting, ride height, kine toe and all the usual caster, camber and toe. I also believe there is the opportunity to test a couple of set up options.

I'm afraid the seats you mention are a lot of money from the dealer, they do pop up occasionally on ebay and the like the cost used is £1k plus(a pair). the chances of the right colour leather is minimal aswell!
The recaro spg or pole position are the closest to the originals (spg in particular). but neither porsche originals or the recaro options tilt ,so kids in the back is tricky ,although they do slide forwards a long way so it's possible(not sure of the saftey implications should you need to get them out quickly! I have a set of spg's and back seats in mine . fitting harnesses and using the back seats could be tricky though.
The non airbag steering wheel is available from porsche for around£200 plus vat and with a few small mods to the horn contact and airbag wiring loom could be fitted to your car and still leave the passenger airbag active if you wanted.By the way it's a lot cheaper than an airbag wheel to replace!!!, they really are loads of money.
brake ducts instead of fog lamps or the small ducts with golf mk 3 little fog lamps are not too much money, but not many people bother to fit the ducting kit to get the air they swallow up actually to the brakes instead of additional air to both a/c condenser and oil cooler(i guess most do the mod for looks?)

the carpet set is quite expensive from the dealer or southbound(stockbridge), i personally would buy the southbound item as you really couldn't tell the two apart. david nunn is the man to speak to, as far as i'm concerned his company is the number one porsche material supplier and trimmer in great britiain.

I hope this is of some use to you
regards C

standard RS seats are almost the same as the Pole position, the only difference is the webbing on the seat back and the colour of the leather. SPG is narrower than the Pole position unless you get the fat boy version, in which case it'll be the same width. SPG also has an extra trunk support bolster on the sides, and the only come in Nomex.

I had the comfy option seats in mine, had it taken out and now I have a set of SPG re-trimmed in leather.

Seats

Mine too came with the "comfort" seats which tilt. I have kept the passenger one as it allows for easy access to the back for bags etc and still use a 4 point harness with it but have a pole position for the driver. That combination would mean you still keep acess for the rear seats?

The only thing to note is that if you use the lower mounts for the recaro available from Southbound (I like many taller people find the recaro mounts too high) you can't use the std seat belt as the buckle fouls the seat/centre console. For me it is no issue as I use the harnesses all the time but if you use the rear seats that is of course tricky!

Brake ducts

With uprated pads and race fluid I have not found the brakes wanting and certainly not enough to put in the ducts with all the attendant hassle.

Kind regards

Thanks Richard

Plenty to think about now where seats are concerned.

Will get steering wheel.

Will get carpet set for rear in case hard to get in the future when rear seats come out.

Will leave brake ducks for now and see how they fare, (drove a 964 rs at Brands on GP loop last month and they got very hot which resulted in shudder and that got me thinking).

Anyone else got views on Centre Gravity and costs?

CoG have been setting my car up, and they've installed a set of KW v3 for me. Very much attention to detail, and very knowledgeble with everything suspension. Recent re-pricing means they can actually work for some kind of profit rather than working for free like they used to!! You do get what you pay for, and he'll spend a whole day making sure everything is just right, checked and re-checked after each adjustment.

Thanks Mick

That's what i thought, but its nice to hear it from someone else, spoke to Chris today and going to see him soon.
