Guys,
Anyone know, generally speaking, if a 225/50 R16 tyre will go onto a 9" rim ? Obviously a 245/45 would be the ideal but none in stock and no chance of getting one before I'm off to Spa next week.

Thanks,

Jamie

Don't think so. It will stretch onto an 8" rim, but I wouldn't want to go beyond that.

Hi Jamie,

Looking at Tirerack's website, specs on e.g. S-O2s for 225/50ZR16 suggest Rim Width Range to be 6-8".

HTH,

Jim.

Jamie and I have just been thru this offline. Just for the benefit of others, my thoughts were :

"Yes a 225 will go on. I ran a Yoko S1V 225/50 on a 9 for various track days. It seemed to be a fairly wide tyre for a 225 and worked very well. As a general rule it is much safer to run a narrow tyre on a wide rim than vice versa - wide tyre on narrow rim. If you want to be safe, you could find out what the choice of carcass is and we can try to see what the spec rims are from Tire Rack or manufacturers sites however I think they will all say 8 inch rim is max. However, it will work"

Jamie is going to try it. BTW, he noted in correspondence with me that 225mm is near enough 9 inches.

Hopefully he reports back here with results, thoughts and pictures after Spa.

This (poor) picture shows the 225s on 9s. Sorry, I have nothing clearer.
