R.I.P 44 Turbo

Hi

Well a good friend of mine got out of this without a scratch last week, very lucky boy. But does show how strong the cockpit of these vehicles really is, as that was still pretty intact on the inside. And also after all these years it still held together fairly well.

It was because of this car I bought my 44 Turbo. I had looked into buying this some years before but was told no way. He bought it a couple of years ago with only 18,000 miles on the clock. It had less than 40,000 when it landed on it's roof.

So sad to see a low mileage 44 come to an end.

Luckily I drove it all those years ago to get me hooked.

Sponge your a lucky man, may your car rest in peace.

Cheers

Lee

Ouch! Glad he is OK,

and (Vulture hat on) has it got an LSD and where is the gearbox now?

Tony

Thats the second picture of a smashed up 944 I've seen this week. The other was in 911PW when some chap T boned a Merc 4x4 at 60...... and walked away.

It is good to think that, despite being an old car, '44s do seem to be very strong if anything does go wrong.

Looking at the picture, it just goes to show what can happen if your spare wheel isn't bolted in properly. [;)]

John, isn't that what you nearly did so you could get easier access to those damn adaptor plates on your tial ?

Joking aside, looks nasty but shows how strong the 944 is.

Lucky he wasn't in a Boxster under the circumstances [&:]

Hi Tony

It was a 1990 44 turbo with LSD Gearbox I believe.
It has already been towed away by the insurance company but I could find out where and if they are selling it for spares.
Seats are still in lovely condition in it and were black electric sport seats.
Let me know and I will ask the question.

cheers

Lee

Blimey[&:] lucky man indeed. Pleasing to know what strong classics were actually driving

what happened to end up there btw??

It's very sad that we always see a few pics like that at this time of year. Slippy roads and lots of power through wide tyres should always be driven with respect. Shame that such a low miler has bitten the dust but am so glad your friend walked away.

Will he get another?

Tony you are disgraceful [8|] (is his engine going spare? [;)])

Tony

Ouch. Not nice but as everyone has said non-injury is the main thing.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]When I saw the title I had a horrible thought it was your unusual blue one...[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Thankfully Fen it was not mine. Mine is tucked up in the garage at the moment keeping warm and away from slippery roads.

Shame about my mates though. The mad thing is he phoned me 2 days before he crashed it to see if I or anyone else wanted to buy it. I was tempted due to its low mileage and as I knew the car and had driven it. Who'd of thought the next series of events could happen so soon.

Tony re gearbox, I have e mailed my mate and he will get in touch with insurance company.

And Paul I have asked the same of the engine enquiry. He said the engine was pushed back 6 inches into the bulkhead, but it may be OK.

I am away till the 9th Jan skiing, but will drop you a mail on my return if he has any news.

Cheers

And merry xmas everyone

Lee

Thanks Lee, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek though as there has been a bit of progress with my rebuild this week. I'm not entirley sure what the progress is, but rest assured I'll be typing endlessly about it when I find out.

I'm assuming, from the boot carpet, that it has a black of blue interior ?

You can see the vultures circling can't you.

Black interior

Bridge spoiler but I already asked about that as I wanted it but unfortunately it is in a sorry state.

Would really need the rear window as I believe holes are in different position from foam spoiler and as you can see unless your very patient and you are a dab hand with a glue gun it is not much use.

Anyway I have 15 hour drive to the snow so better get a move on. Got a ferry to catch

See you
