R10 Mountain Biking - Beginners event

A few people approached me at todays Althrop event (thanks again Tony) and mentioned that they are harbouring a desire to come mountain biking with the R10 faithful but are concerned about their fitness levels and ability to 'keep up'.

I appreciate that anybody reading the banter on this forum might accuse us of being a bit 'hardcore' and might be put off joining us on our regular Saturday or Sunday morning jaunts through Woburn Woods. Things couldn't be further from the truth.

However we are always keen to get as large a gang as possible up to the woods (Andy gets bored on his own) and have decided to make the first Saturday of every month an absolute beginners day with all comers welcome, male or female.

All you need is a serviceable mountain bike, a cycling helmet (trees can hurt), a bottle of water and enthusiasm. In return we will show you the trails around Woburn woods and give you a chance to try out off road cycling as a great way of keeping fit. If you like it and are happy keeping up you are welcome to come along to any Saturday or Sunday trip posted on the forum. Occasionally we even go somewhere other than Woburn!

The first all comers ride will be this weekend on Saturday morning, meeting at the sandy crossroads at 9.00 am. This is the top of Church road where the early morning dog walkers park. Type 'Woburn Sands' into http://maps.google.com/ to find Church Road.

Kelvin and Mike Walsh we already have parking spaces reserved ..

No broken bones, no falls, no body new [8|]

At least I had Graham to keep me company!

Where were you guys (and gals)?

Cheers

Andy

I joined the MTBK group last Saturday morning on the promise that they would treat me as a beginner and be happy to wait fro me however I got on.

I REALLY enjoyed myself and am hoping to join the guys regularly from now on.

The Woburn woods is one of the best places to ride in the UK and there is something for everyone - whatever their level.

So Graham, Andy & Steve do I get my 15 minutes of fame you promised me ? How about the "Steve's Sandy Step-Off" corner ?

So same time this Saturday guys ? I'm up for a repeat if you are.

FYI, the R10 mtb group is meeting @ the Sandy Cross-roads in Bow Brickhill again this coming Sunday. If you are coming, you might like to bring a helmet, and make sure your bike is OK for about 1.5hrs of off road cycling

As Steve E will attest, we treat all newcomers as learners....right up until they feel confident to go a little deeper into the woods.

Look forward to seeing a few more new starters, or indeed anyone experienced.

8:45 onwards, we depart at 9:00*

Steve

* only valid if I get there early...or we start later [:D]

Hi all,

Beginners mountain biking again this coming Saturday. Time and place as mentioned before.

I definatly have two beginners coming with me so there's no need to think that you will be the only one.

In addition to the kit you need mentioned above I would suggest a pair of gloves as its starting to get a bit nippy early in the mornings and your fingers might feel the chill.

However this is no reason to be put off as its still warm enough and the weather good enough to make it absoulutly perfect for riding around the woods. Woburn in the morning is beautiful and really not to be missed. It could be your last chance for a beginners ride that doesnt involve thermal underwear, long trousers and multiple layers of lycra!!

Remember Christmas is coming and I guarentee you will lose pounds, actually enjoy doing it and you wont have to watch what you eat if you start coming out on your bikes with us.

As this ride coincides with the Husbourne Crawley Autojumble we can relocate after the ride for cups of tea and bacon butties!!

Call me on 07961 420817 to confirm attendance or if you have any questions.

Cheers

Andy

Hope to see some new (and a few old) faces there...

Don't worry about punctures as Steve D has been around the course making sure there are no sharp stones, thorns etc to slow you down ..[:D]
