R16 Gliding Evening June 19

Hello everyone,

It looks like we will have to cancel the gliding evening planned for June 19.

Annoyingly we had plenty of people but the flying club are governed by RAF Brize Norton and they have just announced that the only evening for
them to fly in June is Friday 12.

More annoyingly is that the club has confirmed the cost per person will be £55 to £60 where as until recently it was £45.

Region 31 are organising a gliding event and this is a copy from the forum;

Hi all I am arranging another gliding evening this year on Friday the 26th of June, this is at the Bicester heritage centre air field site,
we will start at around 6.30 pm TBC and we will aim to include two flights per person and as last time will
include good quality food , the cost will be around £40.00 per person TBC. The ideal no of fliers will be about 18 so
if you are interested please let me know ASAP via forum or email to Geoff-davis@live.co.uk, please note max weight 16 stone & max height about 6 foot 3 ins.

This looks a far better deal than Bannerdown but I appreciate it is further to travel for some of our members.

Sorry for any disappointment

Best regards Stuart

Hi Stuart,

A few years back I had a great gliding experience at Minchinhampton which is nice and local. It might be worth considering if you havent already

Cheers

Thanks Mark,
I have had a look and it seems quite good, its actually given me an idea for something else.
It also looks like we will be going ahead with another Gliding Club for the 19th

I have an alternative for the cancelled Gliding event

Bath Wilts and N.Dorset Gliding club who operate out of "The Park" which is just south of Longleat in Wiltshire.
Have a look at this link http://www.bwnd.co.uk/

Friday 19th June is available but we would need to know how many people still want to do this and confirm the Gliding Club can
organise for suitable club members to be there to operate.
Launches can be by winch or aerotow - all the details are on the website

Groups of 10+ winch £32.50

A second flight if time permits costs £15.30 for a winch launch

Juniors cost just £21.90 per person for a winch launch

You have the opportunity to take the controls during the flight

Enjoy the wonderful Wiltshire countryside

People wishing to fly must be over 7 Stone and less than 16 stone and at least 13 years old

Can we have a show of hands as soon as possible to get some numbers and then take it from there

We appreciate it is a bit further to travel but only a few miles down the road. It looks like we have 6 confirmed so far, just need a few more

Thanks to Paul Salter for looking into this for us

Kind regards Elaine and Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Pam and I can't make the 19th June - we're off to Oxford to see Michael McIntyre [:D]

All the best, John

Thanks John,
Enjoy your evening.
We now have over 10 confirmed for the revised venue so this will be going ahead, weather permitting.

Just a quick note to all coming to the gliding evening on the 19th June at BW&NDGC at "The Park".

Flying will start from mid afternoon (3pm or earlier) so if you can make any time from 2:30 onwards I strongly suggest that this would be a good idea. This makes it a more relaxed day with a much better chance for longer flights, and also means that those arriving later have less of a wait to fly. The standard launch is by winch however the option will be available to have a an aero tow launch behind the Pawnee tug aircraft (more cost than a winch launch but worth it on the right day). Due to local noise abatement rules the tug can't fly after 7pm. It is likely the club house bar may be open later on (depending on availability of club members).

It's a beautiful site (see pictures on the Flickr link on website - http://www.bwnd.co.uk/) so another thought is to take the chance for some interesting pictures with Porsches and Gliders

I am an associate member of the gliding club so will be on hand to generally help out and liaise. Providing the weather is dry flying will definitely happen, however lets hope for a great sunny day with a few nice cumulus clouds to soar under.

Let me or Stuart know if there are any questions - look forward to seeing you there
