R19 concours

Entered my 944 into the R19 Street car concours yesterday and had a great day, although there were very few 994's there and only two front engine water cooled car entered (mine and a 928).

Although I didn't expect to get anywhere I can't believe someone entered a brand new 997 and got 2nd place. How are 18year old cars suppose to stand a chance against a £80,000 911.

Never mind it was good weather and the people were great.

Doubt I will enter next year unless I win the lottery.

This is a very difficult and valid point in Street Concours and it is hard for people to compete against "new" cars with very low mileage and no age to them.

I do not know how R19 concours was marked, but we ourselves when we do a Street concours have a mileage points system which gives 1 point for every 10,000 miles to be awarded up to a maximum of 12 points for 120,000miles and over. This does give owners of older cars some help and encouragement and a similar system is adopted at the National Concours. In addition to this, we also have judges discretionary marks up to a maximum of 10 points.

Don't be discouraged and do have a go again. How about coming to the Porsche and Polo event at Kirtlington where the above criteria will be applied to the Street Concours.

I still think we should have a concourse totally biased toward users - The Mad Max Award perhaps.

Points would be gained for:-

Chipped and cracked lights and windscreens.

Stone chips

Blued brake discs

Dirty air flow streaks across the car

Worn gear sticks

Tyre wear

Metal dust ingress in alloy wheel rims

Speed related modifications

That does seem a bit ridiculous; surely brand new cars, or those up to a certain age, should not be eligible?
We have our R27 concours this coming weekend so it will be interesting to see what's entered.
I have spent quite a lot of time getting my car ready for it, but as you say, is it really worth it?
Maybe we should just take the Sims route and cut down on the elbow grease in favour of driving fun.

I must be in with a shout then John - here's my "speed related modification" from Rockingham last week

I think points should be deducted for having certain standard bits on the car. Those 15" or 16" wheels and orange indicators for example [8D]

Don't forget there is the 944 register concour on the 18th. At least there you are competing against similar type and age of vehicle. After that street rules will apply, so mileage is taken into consideration, and at the judges discretion, cars that should be in the Meister class will be elevated to the Meister class (open to all types).
18th June, Kingston Lacy, Nr. Wimborne Dorset, in conjunction with R26 concour.

And after my dash from Scotland can we have extra points related to the number of flies squashed? My car is now hairy [:D]
Tony
(hope Belinda and Peter made the flight)

Guessing that any father would love to be dragged along, and if you have kids it is the ideal day to do what you want[;)]...besides £5 entrance is per car, so get as many people in there as you can!

I wasn't thinking of anyone in particular with that, just alluding to the fact there are usually very few cars not running 17's or bigger rims and without clear lenses these days when we meet up.

Beaky is very much the same. I am leaving him dirty at the momment, in the way that current Le Mans cars are displayed dirty at Goodwood. [;)]

Belinda & Peter did make the flight, but only just. Belinda had miss read the sheet and was there with 20 minutes to spare. Had she not it would have been touch and go, and Edinburgh can be quite a delay through the security check after check in. It transpired that the flight was delayed as one of the air crew was stuck in the same queue that we were.

Rick, Sian & I then got stuck for the best part of three hours on the M1 when some numpty thought reducing three lanes to one would be a good idea. I didn't get home until 3:00am - so pretty much 20 hours from Loch Ness.

.....not that this has anything to do with concourse.
